Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Shiro Yamada! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, frank rock! The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Ren Mimura and Shigeki Sano.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! rock fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Yamada looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this! Yamada stuffs the takedown attempt from rock. rock gets slowly back to his feet. A punch combination from Yamada misses. rock looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Yamada is fending him off so far but rock persists. Nope, Yamada circles away and we're back to standing. Shiro Yamada has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of frank rock. Yamada connects with a right hand. rock shakes it off. Yamada gets a takedown into half guard. rock is looking for a sweep. Yamada is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Yamada not doing much here.
That's one minute gone in the round. rock wants to get back to his feet. rock is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first. Yamada seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. rock rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Yamada moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. rock tries to close the distance and clinch but Yamada swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Yamada misses with a double jab
and rock counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by rock. rock postures up.
rock wants to pass the guard but Yamada is keeping the position. Yamada lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for rock! The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. rock sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Yamada trying to control from half guard but rock is working away. Yamada stops rock from getting back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. rock shoots in but no luck this time. Good standup being displayed there by rock as he connects with a hook. rock has a takedown stuffed. Yamada listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut. rock is looking to clinch but Yamada is avoiding it.

and rock counters with a nice double leg into guard. Yamada preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Yamada is trying to control the position but rock postures up. Yamada keeping moving, preventing rock from controlling successfully. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Yamada gets in close and instigates a clinch. rock's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Yamada wants to clinch up but rock keeps it at a distance. The fight stays on the outside here - rock looks like he's thinking about clinching though. rock misses with a takedown attempt and Yamada moves into the clinch. rock stalling in the clinch.
rock lands an elbow inside that Yamada shrugs off. Yamada lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage. Yamada lands a body shot. Yamada wants to get back to striking at distance but rock won't allow it.
rock tries to pull guard but Yamada holds him up against the ropes and eventually rock drops back down to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. rock gets underhooks to prevent Yamada's takedown attempt.

and rock counters with a takedown into side control. Yamada striking from the bottom but nothing landed.
Yamada wants to control but rock postures up. rock wants to stand but Yamada has his arm trapped. Yamada is not content to let rock control the position. Yamada is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. rock is looking to take this fight into the clinch. rock moves in looking to clinch but Yamada pushes him off. Yamada doesn't succeed with the takedown and rock counters with a nice kick to the body. rock fails with the takedown and Yamada counters by clinching up. That's three minutes gone in the round. Both guys are working to get underhooks. Yamada dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the ropes. rock taking a break, stalling in the clinch.
Yamada is trying to maintain a safe position but rock gets an underhook and turns Yamada into the ropes. rock is pressed up against the ropes. Yamada has hold of a leg and is looking to drag rock down to the mat. rock avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. Horrible takedown by Yamada or perhaps it was just good defense by rock which made him look bad. Yamada is looking to clinch. Shiro Yamada is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. rock looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Yamada keeping control of the position. Yamada on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Yamada tries to get out of the position. rock thows a big elbow that misses, also allowing Yamada to regain full guard. frank rock has got the better of the ground game so far.

rock must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Yamada thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage. rock preventing the sweep. Yamada keeping moving, preventing rock from controlling successfully. rock working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
frank rock showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!
rock closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. rock wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Yamada, who protects the arm well. rock in side control, throwing shots but Yamada defends. Yamada is trying to buck rock off. Yamada is not content to let rock control the position. Both fighters are breathing heavily. The strikes coming from rock are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
That's one minute gone in the round. rock throwing strikes but missing, from side control. Yamada is looking to work his way out of this bad position but rock is controlling him well. What's Yamada going to do here then? He's in a bit of a pickle.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Yamada shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Yamada was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Yamada cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Yamada wants to control the pace but rock is squirming around nicely. rock really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Yamada sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Shiro Yamada has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! rock tries to hold on but Yamada postures up. Yamada trying to control but rock is having none of it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. rock is trying desperately to improve position. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. rock is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Yamada controlling the position easily from mount. BOOM! Yamada connects with a massive shot to the dome!
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Yamada working away from the top, dropping strikes. rock is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
rock wants to hold on but Yamada pushes him away. Yamada wants to control the pace but rock is squirming around nicely. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Yamada scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish rock?
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Shiro Yamada. I think rock has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
