PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Remi Bonjasky (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jerson Ruas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Remi Bonjasky!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jerson Ruas!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bonjasky drives through with a takedown into guard.
Bonjasky controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Ruas working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Bonjasky doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Bonjasky manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Bonjasky wants to pass the guard but Ruas is keeping the position.
Bonjasky postures up.
Ruas wants to sweep but no luck.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Ruas is on top in guard.
Ruas trying to control but Bonjasky is working from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Ruas drops back looking for a leg! Bonjasky is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Bonjasky manages to kick Ruas off! Ruas jumps back into Bonjasky's guard.
Bonjasky looking to control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Bonjasky is really struggling to control Ruas but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Bonjasky keeping full guard, as Ruas tries to pass.
Bonjasky knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Ruas on the ground.
Ruas trying to control the position from guard on top but Bonjasky is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Bonjasky fails in his attempt to clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Bonjasky is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Bonjasky is looking to clinch.
Ruas tries for a takedown but Bonjasky sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Bonjasky tries to clinch but Ruas moves out of range.

and Ruas counters with a takedown into side control.

Ruas tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Ruas thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Ruas looks gassed!

Bonjasky prevents Ruas from improving position.
Bonjasky can't do much from the bottom here.
Bonjasky is looking for a sweep.
Bonjasky gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Ruas with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Bonjasky is wriggling around trying to escape.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Ruas content just to control the position here.
Bonjasky is squirming around, avoiding Ruas's attempts to control the action.
Bonjasky really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
You get the feeling that Bonjasky really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Bonjasky tries to hold on but Ruas pushes him away.

Ruas looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.

Ruas is going olschool here, as he tries to force Bonjasky to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Bonjasky shrugs it off.
Bonjasky slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Ruas is looking to advance position but Bonjasky won't allow it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jerson Ruas dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Bonjasky wants to clinch

and Ruas decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Bonjasky's guard.
Bonjasky looking to control.
Bonjasky is looking to stand up but Ruas isn't so interested in that idea.
Ruas looking to pass the guard.
Ruas is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Ruas sitting in guard, not really doing much.

Ruas drops back looking for a leg! Bonjasky is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Bonjasky manages to kick Ruas off! Ruas jumps back into Bonjasky's guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Bonjasky trying to control the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Bonjasky misses with a takedown

and Ruas counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Ruas.

Ruas drops back looking for a submission - "I'm sorry sir, but I'm gunna break your leg" says Ruas as he cranks on the unfortunate limb! Bonjasky screams and taps out before any major damage is done! Don't mess with Ruas! Nice submission victory there!
