The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Erwin moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Ruth shoots and misses
and Erwin connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Erwin looks to land a right hand but Ruth moved out of range.
John Ruth seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Ruth misses with a hook.
We've been hearing reports that Ruth has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Erwin throws a leg kick which misses Ruth's front leg but catches the back leg as Ruth tries to avoid it.

Erwin looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Erwin will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Erwin has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Ruth is landing a low percentage of strikes.

Ruth wants to clinch.
Ruth goes for a double leg but Erwin avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Erwin continues to drive forward.
Ruth uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Erwin.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Ruth is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Erwin lands a slapping body shot.

As Ruth backs off Erwin throws a huge counter combo but Ruth manages to avoid it all.
Erwin swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Erwin throws a right and a left that both miss.

Ruth sees an opening and throws a straight punch right through Erwin's defenses. It connects perfectly with Erwin's jaw and knocks him out cold! Wow - that's a contender for knockout of the year - absolutely brutal!
