Coming up we have a lightweight Tycoon World Grappling Championship rules bout between Guilherme Mendes (ranked 23376 p4p, 689 weight class) and Adam Khabilov (ranked 4499 p4p, 461 weight class). Khabilov has chosen Temple March as his entrance music. Both fighter's entrance songs getting the crowd jumping here.

In the red corner, competing out of Rio de Janeiro, with a TWGC record of 7 wins and 3 losses; Guilherme Mendes! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 0 wins and 1 losses; Adam Khabilov!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, James Atkins and Daniel Bishop.


The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way.

Mendes closes the distance and pushes Khabilov back into the cage.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Khabilov has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Mendes wants the takedown. Khabilov is fighting it off but Mendes persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Khabilov's guard against the cage.

Mendes has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Khabilov is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Mendes off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted.

Mendes seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Khabilov for as long as he can get away with.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mendes wants to take Khabilov's back here but Khabilov is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.

Mendes swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Khabilov is now in Mendes's guard. A big mistake from Mendes there, giving up the dominant position!

Mendes manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Khabilov manages to get himself to full guard.

Mendes slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Khabilov is looking to control Mendes's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Khabilov avoid being mounted?
Mendes looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Mendes is looking for a kimura but Khabilov is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Mendes to get the leverage.

Mendes's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
