Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Manuel Vasquez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Sean Moses! The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Emerson Jorge and Luis Engracia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Vasquez looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Moses is fending him off so far but Vasquez persists. Nope, Moses circles away and we're back to standing. Moses steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Vasquez. Vasquez misses with a wild combination.
Moses looks for a takedown but Vasquez sprawls well. Vasquez changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Moses tries to avoid it but Vasquez manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Moses to the ground. Moses escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Vasquez swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Moses throws a right and a left that both miss. Moses just manages to avoid a counter high kick fromVasquez. We've been informed that Moses has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result. Moses steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Vasquez. That one must have hurt. Vasquez tries to clinch there but Moses circles away.
Moses tries to counter with a clinch but Vasquez shakes him off and moves away. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Moses darts in looking for a takedown but Vasquez gets double underhooks and turns Moses into the cage. Vasquez dives in and grabs Moses's left leg, looking for a takedown. Moses pushes down on Vasquez's head and hops out. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Manuel Vasquez. That's going to take a lot out of him. Vasquez tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Vasquez fails with an attempt to clinch.
That's one minute gone in the round. Moses moves into the clinch successfully.
Vasquez is trying to push Moses away but Moses has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere. Moses stalling in the clinch.
Vasquez tries a body shot but Moses blocks it.
Moses prevents the takedown attempt.
Vasquez is trying to break the clinch but Moses is controlling him. Moses throws a head punch that misses. Moses gets a trip takedown into half guard. Vasquez wants to control but Moses is keeping busy and won't allow it. Moses performing his best blanket impression for a moment. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Moses connects with a nice short shot to Vasquez's temple.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Vasquez is defending against the submission attempts here by Moses.
Moses throwing shots but Vasquez is blocking nicely. Moses thows a huge punch but Vasquez dodges it nicely.
Vasquez is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Vasquez won't allow Moses to pass to mount.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Vasquez tries to roll over but Moses keeps him under control. Moses is trying to work for a kimura but Vasquez is defending well.
Moses passes into side control, despite Vasquez's attempt to control the position.
Moses advances to full mount. Vasquez tries to improve his position but instead Moses has taken his back!
That's four minutes gone in the round. I would not like to be Vasquez right now.
Moses has the hooks in. Vasquez is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted. Moses connects with a series of strikes and the referee is calling for Vasquez to escape the position.
Moses is working for the choke. It looks like he might have got it... has he...? Yes! Vasquez is tapping out! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:43 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Sean Moses!
