PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Luan Barboza (ranked 6852 p4p, 715 weight class) and Thomas Davis (ranked 25495 p4p, 863 weight class). Barboza comes to the cage accompanied by Do I Wanna Know. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Luan Barboza!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Thomas Davis!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Daniel Cesar and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Davis on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Barboza moves out of range of the body kick.
Barboza throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Davis sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Barboza scores with a three punch combo!
Davis feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Barboza's calf.

Davis closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Barboza's guard.
Davis advances position into side control!
Barboza knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Davis on the ground.
Davis wants to control but Barboza is keeping him busy.
Davis lands a few punches from side control.
Davis has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Davis misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Barboza takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.

Davis has hold of Barboza's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Barboza manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Davis is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Barboza has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Barboza!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Davis is pulling down on Barboza's head. It's preventing any offense from Barboza, at least for the moment.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Barboza fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Davis tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Davis throws a push kick but Barboza slaps the foot to one side.
Davis shoots in but Barboza avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Thomas Davis seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Davis gets a double leg takedown into Barboza's guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Barboza bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Davis's guard.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Davis keeping moving, preventing Barboza from controlling successfully.
Barboza stays in close to Davis's body and controls the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Thomas Davis will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Barboza lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Davis misses with a leg kick.
Davis fails with a takedown attempt.

Barboza lands a left and a right that send Davis crashing to the mat, dazed. Barboza thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!


Davis is rocked!


It looks like Thomas Davis has been cut.
Barboza lands a brutal uppercut that launches Davis off his feet! Davis tumbles to the floor, barely conscious - the referee jumps in to save him from a beating! Wow, what an ending!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:52 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Luan Barboza!
