Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Scuba Chris (ranked 2126 p4p, 204 weight class) and Dern MacKenzie (ranked 2503 p4p, 231 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Dern MacKenzie!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Robert Twigg and Cecil Peabody.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chris stuffs the takedown attempt from MacKenzie. MacKenzie gets slowly back to his feet.
MacKenzie moves into range and clinches up with Chris.
Chris manages to break the clinch.
MacKenzie fails with the takedown
and Chris cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Chris moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
MacKenzie wants to clinch.
Chris was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
MacKenzie tries to close the distance and clinch but Chris swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Chris counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Scuba Chris has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dern MacKenzie.

and Chris counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps MacKenzie thinking.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from MacKenzie.

Chris goes for a high kick. It partially lands.

We've been hearing reports that Chris has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
