Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Scuba Chris (ranked 2126 p4p, 204 weight class) and Dern MacKenzie (ranked 2503 p4p, 231 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Scuba Chris! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Dern MacKenzie! The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Robert Twigg and Cecil Peabody.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Chris stuffs the takedown attempt from MacKenzie. MacKenzie gets slowly back to his feet. MacKenzie moves into range and clinches up with Chris. Chris manages to break the clinch.
MacKenzie fails with the takedown and Chris cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Chris moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination. MacKenzie wants to clinch. Chris was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit. MacKenzie tries to close the distance and clinch but Chris swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. MacKenzie closes the distance looking to clinch and Chris counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. MacKenzie doesn't succeed with the takedown and Chris counters with a right hand to the body. Scuba Chris has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dern MacKenzie.
That's one minute gone in the round. MacKenzie tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Chris counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps MacKenzie thinking. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from MacKenzie. MacKenzie fails with the takedown letting Chris counter with a right hand. MacKenzie tries to clinch there but Chris circles away.
Chris goes for a high kick. It partially lands. MacKenzie fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Chris looks to land a combination but MacKenzie avoids it well. Chris moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination. MacKenzie with a lazy takedown attempt and Chris cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. We've been hearing reports that Chris has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight. MacKenzie with a poor takedown letting Chris counter with a right hand. This has been an exciting period of action! MacKenzie misses with a takedown and Chris counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. MacKenzie looks winded!
That's two minutes gone in the round. MacKenzie tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Chris counters with a stiff right hand.
MacKenzie is rocked! Chris drops MacKenzie with a straight left! Oh this is bad for MacKenzie! Chris dives in and starts dropping bombs - the referee has no choice but to step in and save him!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:22 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Scuba Chris!
