Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jury Sobolev! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Brian Calhoun! The judges for this bout are George Francis, Chris Downing and Daniel Franklin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Calhoun throws a sloppy head kick and Sobolev moves out of range easily. Calhoun shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Sobolev napping and manages to drive through into side control! Calhoun is looking to take a break and control but Sobolev is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Sobolev is pushing Calhoun's head away, looking to escape. Calhoun manages to hold on to the position though. An elbow from Calhoun crashes against the mat.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Sobolev is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Calhoun off and has taken his back! Calhoun wants to get back to his feet. Sobolev somehow managing to miss with a strike from the back. Calhoun trying to control the position but Sobolev manages to sink in the hooks. Sobolev misses with a punch to the head. Sobolev missing with punches from the back. Calhoun can't escape the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sobolev misses with a punch to the head. Sobolev throwing lazy shots from the back mount that aren't doing any damage. Calhoun covering up well under a barage of strikes. Calhoun is in bad spot here.
Sobolev is not going to allow Calhoun to sit and survive in this position. Even with his hooks in, Sobolev manages to miss with strikes from the back. Calhoun trying to control but not successfully. Sobolev punches the canvas rather than the man. Calhoun manages to escape to a better position under a series of strikes. Sobolev is now in side control. Calhoun wants to control but Sobolev postures up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Calhoun regains half guard. Calhoun wants to get back to full guard. Sobolev thows a huge punch but Calhoun dodges it nicely.
Sobolev throwing shots but Calhoun is blocking nicely. Calhoun regains full guard. Nicely done. Sobolev with a flurry of punches that miss. Sobolev throws a big right hand that misses. Calhoun preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Calhoun seems keen to control Sobolev's posture. Calhoun is looking to cinch up a triangle. Sobolev throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Calhoun's body to avoid the submission. Calhoun has instead reached around Sobolev's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Calhoun arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Brian Calhoun! Jury Sobolev spoke after the fight, saying 'fuck my opponent i want rematch'.
