Coming up we have a lightweight Tycoon World Grappling Championship rules bout between Karl Max (ranked 8746 p4p, 643 weight class) and Claudio Gadelha (ranked 2951 p4p, 333 weight class). Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Claudio Gadelha enters the cage!

In the red corner, competing out of Los Angeles, with a TWGC record of 5 wins and 5 losses; Karl Max! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, with a TWGC record of 6 wins and 4 losses; Claudio Gadelha!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Phil Schofield and Paul Tew.


The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way.
Max tries to clinch but Gadelha moves out of range.
Gadelha tries to counter by closing the distance.

Gadelha manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Max on his heels. He'll look to pass Max's guard now, I'm sure.

Gadelha stays in close to Max's body and controls the position.
Gadelha passes Max's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Max is trying to get back to full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gadelha moves into full mount! Max won't be happy about that!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gadelha goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Max turns into him and now he's in Gadelha's guard.

Gadelha wants to sweep but no luck.
Gadelha bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Max's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gadelha slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Max is looking for a triangle but Gadelha pushes his legs off easily.
Gadelha seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Gadelha stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Max swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Gadelha is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Gadelha tries to free his leg and advance position but Max is retaining full guard.
Gadelha slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Gadelha tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Gadelha tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Gadelha has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Max is looking to regain half guard here but Gadelha keeps moving and retains side control.

Gadelha is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Max has escaped the position, nice work there.
Gadelha slows the pace down.

Gadelha thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Max is looking for a sweep.

Gadelha tries for a kimura but Max is defending well.
Max tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Gadelha wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
We've been hearing good reports from Max's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Max tries to bench press Gadelha off him but Gadelha keeps the position.
Gadelha controls the position.

Gadelha is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Max knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Max is trying to improve his position.

Max is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Gadelha looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Gadelha content to control rather than advance.

Gadelha is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Gadelha looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Gadelha is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Max is just riding it out for now. Gadelha eventually gives up the hold.
Max wants to improve his position but Gadelha is controlling well.
Gadelha is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Gadelha's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Gadelha wants to work for an arm triangle but Max is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Gadelha prevents Max from improving his position.
Max trying to control but Gadelha postures up.

Gadelha is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Gadelha is pressing down on Max's thigh, looking to free his foot. Max is holding on for now.

Max is looking to regain full guard. He's left an arm up in the air though and Gadelha has latched onto it... Big trouble! Gadelha pivots for an armbar - it's in tight and it Max is tapping in no time flat! Great counter grappling there from Gadelha!
