Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Frank Mirr (ranked 6101 p4p, 554 weight class) and Tony Twist (ranked 6003 p4p, 546 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Frank Mirr!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tony Twist!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Frank Dennis and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Twist misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Twist throws a nice looking combination but Mirr bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Twist moves into the clinch.
Mirr letting Twist take a breather here.
Mirr has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Twist avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Mirr manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Mirr is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Twist is not content to let Mirr control the position.
Mirr is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Twist is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mirr is actively looking for submissions here but good counter grappling here from Twist as he works his way to full guard.
Mirr wants to control from the top but Twist keeps moving.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Mirr tries to keep at a distance but Twist has taken the fight into the clinch.
Mirr is trying to pull guard but Twist turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Twist breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Twist looks for the body kick but Mirr saw that one coming.
Mirr avoids the head kick by Twist.
Twist swings for the body but Mirr moves out of range.
Twist lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.


It looks like Frank Mirr has been cut.

Twist swats away the attempt to clinch by Mirr.
As Mirr backs off Twist throws a huge counter combo but Mirr manages to avoid it all.
Twist throws a sloppy head kick and Mirr moves out of range easily.
Twist tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Mirr paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Twist jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.

Mirr moves in looking to clinch but Twist pushes him off.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Mirr wants to take a breather but Twist is having none of it.

Twist is not content to let Mirr control the position.

Mirr decides to stand up.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Mirr.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Frank Mirr. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Mirr shoots for a takedown but Twist saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Twist stuffs the takedown attempt from Mirr. Mirr gets slowly back to his feet.

Twist has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Mirr on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.

Twist scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Twist looks for the body kick but Mirr saw that one coming.
Mirr drops down looking for a counter takedown but Twist sprawls and moves away.

Tony Twist seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

The referee is keeping an eye on Twist - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Twist breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Mirr darts in looking for a takedown but Twist gets double underhooks and turns Mirr into the cage.

Mirr tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Mirr tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Twist has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Mirr regains guard immediately.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Mirr can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Twist controls the pace.
Mirr controls Twist momentarily but Twist frees himself.
Twist has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Mirr is proving hard to escape from.

Tony Twist showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!



Twist gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Twist's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Twist drops down looking for an ankle pick but Mirr pulls his leg out and moves away.
Twist wants to clinch up but Mirr keeps it at a distance.
Twist misses with a head kick.
Mirr tries to clinch there but Twist circles away.
Twist throws a leg kick but Mirr sees it coming and moves out of range.
Mirr drops down looking for a counter takedown but Twist sprawls and moves away.

The fight stays on the outside here - Mirr looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Twist rushes Mirr and presses him up against the cage.

Mirr tries to score a body lock takedown but Twist shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Mirr lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Twist circles away quickly and effectively.
No joy there for Mirr, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Twist will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

and Mirr decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Twist's guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Mirr accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Mirr is pushing down on Twist's leg trying to pass to half guard. Twist is fighting to maintain full guard but Mirr has managed to sneak the leg through.
Twist takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Twist is doing well to control the position and prevent Mirr from advancing to side control.

Mirr is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Twist defends it well.

Twist is staying active underneath Mirr, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Mirr thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Mirr stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Twist tries a head kick but it misses.
Mirr tries to close the distance and clinch up but Twist swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Frank Mirr is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Tony Twist seems to be working more effectively in the clinch in the fight so far.

Twist postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Mirr has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Twist can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Twist must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Mirr working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Twist doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Mirr is tightening it up a little... Twist has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Twist reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Twist taps out! Nice BJJ there by Mirr!

Frank Mirr seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
