Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dan Thatcher! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Samuel Vidar! The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Alan Glass and Frank Dennis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Vidar lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin. Nice sprawl there from Vidar as Thatcher shoots in. Vidar fails to land with a series of punches.
Vidar throws a one two combo.
Thatcher fails with the takedown and Vidar cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Thatcher forces Vidar back against the cage and clinches. Thatcher tries to pull guard but Vidar won't allow it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dan Thatcher. That's going to take a lot out of him. Vidar tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Thatcher avoids it.

Thatcher wants to take the fight to the mat but Vidar manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch. Vidar pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage. We've been hearing reports that Thatcher has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight. Vidar scores with a knee to the head.
Vidar will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Thatcher up against the cage. Vidar stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.

Thatcher dives in for a single leg takedown but Vidar sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. Vidar throws out a counter right but Thatcher avoids it with no problem. Vidar with a hook. No luck for Thatcher with that takedown attempt. Thatcher doesn't succeed with the takedown and Vidar counters with a nice uppercut.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The fighters circle momentarily. Vidar darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch. Thatcher shoots in looking for a takedown but Vidar manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Thatcher's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Thatcher sets himself, and Vidar steps forward looking for the clinch! Thatcher avoids it this time. Thatcher closes the distance and clinches up with Vidar, looking for a takedown. Thatcher pushes Vidar against the cage but Vidar circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Thatcher sets himself, and Vidar steps forward looking for the clinch! Vidar rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Thatcher counters with a takedown into side control. Vidar throws Thatcher to one side and escapes! The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Thatcher moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Thatcher shoots in looking for a takedown. Vidar tries to sprawl out of it but Thatcher keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Vidar manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. A big right from Vidar misses. Thatcher is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Vidar. Vidar stuns Thatcher with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range. Thatcher shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Vidar is trying to stand.

Samuel Vidar dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

The fighters roll with the hold and Vidar manages to kick Thatcher off! Thatcher jumps back into Vidar's guard. Thatcher drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Thatcher jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Thatcher stops Vidar from standing up. Vidar keeping full guard, as Thatcher tries to pass.

Vidar has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Thatcher stops Vidar from standing up. Thatcher thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Thatcher tries to free his leg and advance position but Vidar is retaining full guard. Thatcher won't allow Vidar to get back to his feet.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Vidar ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Thatcher moves away. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Thatcher is defended easily by Vidar. Vidar feints the counter takedown.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Thatcher tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Vidar defends well and Thatcher ends up having to push Vidar into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Vidar wants to counter with a clinch but Thatcher pushes him away. Thatcher takes one to the side of the head.
Thatcher uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Vidar.
Thatcher drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Thatcher stands and throws Vidar's legs to the side, diving into side control. Thatcher is trying to get an arm triangle but Vidar is defending well. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Thatcher is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Vidar has escaped the position, nice work there. Thatcher is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Vidar is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Dan Thatcher overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Thatcher prevents Vidar from escaping the position. Thatcher is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Vidar has escaped the position, nice work there. Vidar tries to escape but Thatcher is in control. Thatcher looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Vidar wants to get back to his feet but Thatcher drags him back down. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Thatcher looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Vidar is defending well. Thatcher quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Vidar has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Thatcher celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
