PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Nathan Corbett (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brijwanth J (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Nathan Corbett!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Brijwanth J!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Alyssa Summers and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
J stalks Corbett and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Corbett's face. Corbett staggers backwards, shaken.
Corbett attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
Corbett closes the distance and clinches up with J, looking for a takedown. Corbett pushes J against the cage but J circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Corbett tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but J paws at him with a jab and circles away.
A combination from Corbett does no damage.
Corbett looking to land some kicks to the body here.
A nice inside leg kick there by Corbett. That's going to slow J down.
J circles away from the clinch attempt.
J misses with a jab, cross combination.
J takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Corbett shoots in for a takedown but J shows good takedown defense.
J swats away the attempt to clinch by Corbett.
Corbett throws a nice head kick!


It looks like Brijwanth J has been cut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Corbett will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Corbett tries to close the distance and clinch up but J swats him away and circles back towards the center.

J throws a right hand that Corbett ducks under and follows up with a left that Corbett also avoids with ease.
Corbett moves into range and throws a big uppercut. OH! J goes down! Can Corbett finish him!?

J is looking to stand up but Corbett isn't so interested in that idea.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Corbett stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. J swivels though and keeps the full guard.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Corbett goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Corbett throws a quick head kick that skims the top of J's head.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
J uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Corbett.
Corbett wants to clinch up but J keeps it at a distance.
J tries a low kick but Corbett avoids it.
Corbett fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
A punch combination from J misses.
A right-left combo lands from J.
Corbett shoots for a takedown but J saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Corbett fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt J.
J looks gassed!
J blocks the body kick.

Corbett wants to clinch.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
J has had enough of the clinch but Corbett keeps him there for the moment.

Corbett has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics J uses from the top position.

Corbett looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
J would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Corbett had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. J is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Corbett Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take J's back instead.
J has his hands over his head blocking the strikes from Corbett.

Corbett looking to break J's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. J remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Corbett will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Corbett punches the canvas rather than the man.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Corbett looks for a takedown but J sprawls well.
J throws a hook to the side of Corbett's head but Corbett sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Corbett is on the wrong end of a nice combination from J.
Nathan Corbett is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
J chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Corbett can pounce on him.
Corbett shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says J as he avoids it easily.
J fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Corbett manages to avoid it.

J throws a lazy right hand but Corbett sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Corbett will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
J missing with a left hand there. Corbett was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

J throws a shot from downtown. Corbett moves away and avoids it.
Corbett is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by J.

Corbett looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Corbett shoots in and drives through. J sprawls well.
Corbett motions for J to come forward. Corbett throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
J stuffs the takedown attempt from Corbett. Corbett gets slowly back to his feet.

Corbett shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with J but J pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Corbett drops his hands momentarily and J takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.

Horrible takedown by Corbett or perhaps it was just good defense by J which made him look bad.
Corbett shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
J misses with a two punch combination.
Corbett avoids the body shot from J.
J avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Corbett tries to clinch but J moves out of range.
Nathan Corbett seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

J gets caught flat footed, as Corbett shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
J wants to stand and escape but Corbett is having none of it.

Corbett stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. J swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Corbett postures up in J's guard and throws a big left but J blocks it.
J can't keep his opponent in guard - Corbett advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Corbett is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so J is just riding it out for now. Corbett eventually gives up the hold.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Corbett is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. J doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Corbett.

That's time! Back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

A low kick from Corbett is predictable there
letting J counter with a right hand.

Corbett shoots for a double leg takedown but J sprawls well. He's pushed Corbett's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
J cracks Corbett with an open hand slap.
Corbett misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
J's corner calls for a 1-2. J obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

Corbett takes one on the button.

and J counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Corbett thinking.

A left and a right from J both land. Nice combination.
Corbett closes the distance but J moves to the side
and J connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

J scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
J ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Corbett moves away.
J lands the left hand.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
J throws a big shot that misses.
Corbett doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Corbett takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

And that's the end of the fight!
Brijwanth J comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Corbett has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
