Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Justice James (ranked 6498 p4p, 575 weight class) and Stanley Steele (ranked 6464 p4p, 573 weight class). Stanley Steele is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Justice James! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Stanley Steele! The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Ren Mimura and Taro Takaoka.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! James avoids a lazy jab quite easily. James with a lazy takedown attempt and Steele counters with a nice uppercut. Decent striking displayed by Steele there. Good exchange - Steele coming out on top. James goes for a double leg but Steele avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the ropes as Steele continues to drive forward. James ducks under a wild hook from Steele. Steele loads up on a big right hand but James slips the punch. James half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. James tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Steele defends well and James ends up having to push Steele into the ropes where they will battle it out in the clinch. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Justice James. That's going to take a lot out of him. Steele lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Steele's coach down at Chris Leben KO Academy was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Steele's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
That's one minute gone in the round. James takes a body punch but keeps moving. James shoots in for a takedown but Steele shows good takedown defense. Steele lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!

and Steele counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body. Steele connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between James's hands. Steele misses with a body shot.
James tries to counter with a takedown but Steele is quick to defend against it. James dodges the punch combination from Steele.
James appears to be looking for a counter takedown. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Steele misses with a series of wild punches.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. That's three minutes gone in the round. Steele wants to stand and escape but James is having none of it. Steele really doesn't want to stay on the ground with James. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. James passes into half guard. James trying to control the action but Steele is working from the bottom. James uses his free foot to push down on Steele's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Steele. James jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Steele manages to avoid the submission attempt.

He has the arm isolated but Steele is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. James thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Steele wants to get back to his feet. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Steele can do anything to dispel that myth. Steele stops James from passing to mount. Steele is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
That's six minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
