Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Gilberto Tanquinho!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Shamil Saadulaev!
The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Santiago Holmes and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Tanquinho gets tackled into the cage by Saadulaev. Saadulaev maintains the clinch.
Tanquinho fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Tanquinho goes for a takedown attempt but Saadulaev pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

so Saadulaev counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Saadulaev postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Tanquinho striking off his back but it's not causing Saadulaev any problems.

Saadulaev is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Tanquinho has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Tanquinho escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Saadulaev gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Saadulaev got a little sloppy there for a moment and Tanquinho has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Saadulaev has managed to get both his arms back between Tanquinho's legs - danger averted.
Saadulaev connects with a couple of short punches.
Saadulaev is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Saadulaev must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Tanquinho is striking off his back. Saadulaev thinks nothing of it though and passes easily into half guard.

Tanquinho is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Saadulaev takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Saadulaev is taking a breather. Tanquinho says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Tanquinho is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Saadulaev asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Saadulaev is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

Saadulaev seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Tanquinho is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Saadulaev's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Saadulaev's back!
