PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Boris Kane (ranked 3128 p4p, 342 weight class) and Kung Po (ranked 1261 p4p, 172 weight class). Kane comes to the cage accompanied by Seek N Strike. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Boris Kane!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Kung Po!
The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Konstantin Menshow and Viktor Lagutenko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kane feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Po is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Kane is controlling him.
Kane has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

Po seems keen to control Kane's posture.
Kane sitting in guard, not really doing much.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kane preventing the sweep.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Kane wants to pass the guard but Po is keeping the position.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Kane tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Po defends well and Kane ends up having to push Po into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Po lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
Po's coach down at Russian Bears Training Center was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Po's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Po is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Kane.
A big right from Po misses.
Po moves out of range as Kane throws a body kick.
Kane fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Po is out of range.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Po! But no joy.
Kane misses with a hook
and Po counters with a stiff right hand.
Po displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Kane.
Po works Kane's body with a nice hook.
A telegraphed right hand from Po misses the target.
Kane takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Kane shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Kane was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Po is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Kane is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Kane looking to finish with strikes here!

Kane has hold of Po's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Po manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Po regains half guard.
Po blocking the ground and pound attempt from Kane.
Po is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Kane seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Po does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Po is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Po has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Kane is on him like a limpet, forcing Po back against the cage.
Po letting Kane take a breather here.
Po throws a head punch that misses.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Po.
Po stops a takedown attempt from Kane.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Boris Kane. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Po throws a punch but it's blocked by Kane.
Kane has Po pressed against the cage.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Kane.
Kane tries a body shot but Po blocks it.
Kane blocking some punches.

Kane breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Kane misses with a jab to the body
and Po counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Po lands a nice shot that snaps Kane's head back.


Kane is rocked!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Po lands an uppercut, right on the button! Kane tumbles backwards into the cage, staring vacantly into space! He's got no idea where he is, who he is or what day it is... Poor guy.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:11 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Kung Po!
Kung Po decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
