PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Andrey Kuznetcov (ranked 197 p4p, 20 weight class) and Jim Duggan (ranked 665 p4p, 59 weight class). Duggan has chosen Five Finger Death Punch- Bad Company as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. This should be fireworks!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Andrey Kuznetcov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jim Duggan!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Mauricio Rocha and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Duggan tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Kuznetcov manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Kuznetcov half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Kuznetcov shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Duggan pinned against the cage. Duggan gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Duggan feints a counter leg kick.
We've been hearing reports that Kuznetcov has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Kuznetcov misses with a takedown attempt - Duggan sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Duggan swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Kuznetcov misses with an uppercut.
Kuznetcov lands a jab to the head.

and Kuznetcov counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Kuznetcov throws a strike but Duggan rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Duggan lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Duggan won't allow Kuznetcov to sweep him here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Duggan postures up in Kuznetcov's guard and throws a big left but Kuznetcov blocks it.
Kuznetcov seems keen to control Duggan's posture.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Duggan connects with a nice short shot to Kuznetcov's temple.

Kuznetcov wants to get back to his feet.
Duggan sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Kuznetcov defending well though.

Kuznetcov moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Kuznetcov trying to keep a closed guard but Duggan is proving a slippery customer.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Kuznetcov has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Duggan has passed into side control.
Duggan creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Kuznetcov sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jim Duggan dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Duggan clobbers Kuznetcov with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Kuznetcov misses with a series of wild punches.
Kuznetcov throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Duggan throws a head kick that misses.
Duggan takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.


It looks like Jim Duggan has been cut.

Kuznetcov feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Duggan is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Kuznetcov pushes down on Duggan's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Kuznetcov winds up and cracks Duggan with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Kuznetcov thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Duggan's head.

Duggan is pressing down on Kuznetcov's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Duggan is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Kuznetcov is aware though and is defending well.

Andrey Kuznetcov overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Kuznetcov is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Kuznetcov has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Duggan keeping moving, preventing Kuznetcov from controlling successfully.

Duggan is looking for a triangle here but Kuznetcov uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Duggan takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

Duggan regains half guard there - taking advantage of Kuznetcov's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.
Duggan on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.


The cut above Jim Duggan's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
Kuznetcov scores with a big shot! Duggan's head bounced off the canvas with a huge thud! More strikes land and the referee has jumped in to save Duggan! He was hurt real bad - good stoppage!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:45 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Andrey Kuznetcov!
After the fight, Andrey Kuznetcov was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
