Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mike Mikson (ranked 4108 p4p, 491 weight class) and Niko Puhkuri (ranked 5026 p4p, 565 weight class). Niko Puhkuri will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Mike Mikson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Niko Puhkuri!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Arvi Lind and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
That kick from Puhkuri tenderised Mikson's leg. Mikson is trying to keep his angry face on.
Puhkuri defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Mikson.
Puhkuri throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Mikson will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
A good leg kick by Puhkuri.
Puhkuri thumps Mikson with a low kick.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Mikson.
Puhkuri steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Mikson.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mike Mikson. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Mikson tries to free his leg and advance position but Puhkuri is retaining full guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Mikson.
Puhkuri shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Mikson eats them both and turns towards Puhkuri to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Puhkuri fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Mikson.

Mikson closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Puhkuri to the mat! Puhkuri manages to get full guard.
Mikson's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Puhkuri wants to sweep here but Mikson controlling him for the moment.
Mikson wants to pass the guard but Puhkuri is keeping the position.
Mikson advances to half guard.
Mikson keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Puhkuri felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mikson passes the guard and advances to mount!
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Puhkuri is looking to get to half guard.
Puhkuri is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Puhkuri is in all sorts of trouble here.
Puhkuri tries to hold on but Mikson postures up.

Mikson trying to control but he's not successful this time.

Mikson is working for a guillotine from mount but Puhkuri frees his head quite easily.
Mikson trying to control but Puhkuri is having none of it.
Puhkuri tries to hold on but Mikson pushes him away.
Puhkuri really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mikson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Mikson moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Puhkuri has worked his arm free - good work by Puhkuri!

Mikson tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Mikson has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Niko Puhkuri will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the ring so we can get back down to business.


Whack! Puhkuri lands a heavy head kick that drops Mikson. The ref tackles Puhkuri to stop the fight - a great save by the referee because Mikson was done.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:05 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Head Kick). Niko Puhkuri!
