3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Casper Abbot! The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Luis Engracia and Edson Gomes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Samuel throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Samuel takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him. Samuel doesn't succeed with the takedown and Abbot cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. The fight stays on the outside here - Samuel looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Samuel is looking to clinch but Abbot is avoiding it.
Casper Abbot seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Abbot clobbers Samuel with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise. Abbot looks to land a combination but Samuel avoids it well. This fight brought to you by 5M nutrition - it's mmmmm tasty. Nice jab by Abbot. A slow jab from Abbot misses its intended target. Samuel seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Abbot fails in his attempt to clinch. An attempted straight right counter from Samuel misses the target. Samuel slips a jab and a cross from Abbot.
Samuel went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected. Samuel looks to land a combination but Abbot avoids it well. Abbot tries to clinch but Samuel is having none of it. Samuel tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Abbot manages to circle out of the way. Samuel slips under a jab.
That's one minute gone in the round. Abbot stuns Samuel with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range. Samuel shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Abbot pinned against the cage. Abbot gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Abbot missing with a left hand there. Samuel was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Abbot slaps away a takedown attempt from Samuel, before circling back to the center of the mat. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Vitor Samuel. That's going to take a lot out of him. Abbot throws a leg kick but Samuel checks it. Abbot uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Samuel. Abbot swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made. Samuel swats away the attempt to clinch by Abbot. Samuel went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected. Samuel doesn't manage to clinch there - Abbot circles away.
Abbot is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Samuel. Abbot swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Samuel throws a sloppy head kick and Abbot moves out of range easily. Samuel walks straight into a right hand from Abbot - that's dropped him! Abbot jumps into mount and starts pounding away - can he finish?! More strikes go undefended and the referee has to dive in to save Samuel from any more punishment! Samuel complains about the stoppage but falls over as he tries to stand back up, so it was clearly a good stoppage.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:12 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Casper Abbot! Casper Abbot decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
