PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Cain Diaz (ranked 7990 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ted Goat (ranked 2636 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Cain Diaz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ted Goat!
The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, John Roberts and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Goat is looking to clinch.
Goat is looking to clinch but Diaz is avoiding it.
Goat displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Diaz throws out the jab.
Goat moves to clinch but Diaz breaks away
and Diaz counters with a right hand to the body.

Goat has managed to clinch.
Diaz changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Goat fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Goat gets a clinch.
Diaz's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
Diaz wants a takedown but no success here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A battle for position here, against the cage.
Diaz blocking some punches.
Goat's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Diaz goes for a takedown in the clinch but Goat prevents it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Cain Diaz. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Diaz has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Goat avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Goat lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.

An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Goat.
Diaz wants a takedown.
Goat lands with a light punch inside.
Goat prevents a takedown attempt there.
Goat is pressed up against the cage. Diaz has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Goat down to the mat. Goat avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Goat is looking to clinch.
Diaz fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Goat wants to clinch.
Diaz circles away from the clinch attempt.

and Diaz connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Diaz shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Goat pinned against the cage. Goat gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Goat throws out a counter right but Diaz avoids it with no problem.

Diaz misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Goat closes the distance and clinches.
Diaz tries to score a body lock takedown but Goat shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Goat lands a right hand that snaps the head of Diaz backwards.
This has been an exciting period of action!
A body shot lands from Goat.
Goat looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Goat softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage.
Goat lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.

Diaz is breathing heavily.

Diaz works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Diaz won't allow Goat to sweep him here.
Diaz postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Goat tries to land a sweep but no joy.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Diaz stands up over Goat, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Goat has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Diaz can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Goat looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Diaz passes Goat's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Diaz missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Goat really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Diaz. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Diaz is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Goat defends it well.

Goat tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Diaz manages to move to mount!

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Goat is bucking up trying to escape but Diaz cracks him with another couple of good strikes.


Goat is rocked!
Diaz connects with a bit shot that sees Goat covering up! More strikes from Diaz and the referee jumps in to stop the fight! Diaz is our winner by TKO!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:44 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Cain Diaz!
Cain Diaz decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
