Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between David McDonald (ranked 3323 p4p, 427 weight class) and Viktor Mikhailov (ranked 3289 p4p, 423 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mikhailov throws a body kick that misses.
McDonald feinted with a counter takedown.
McDonald closes the distance and clinches up with Mikhailov, looking for a takedown. McDonald pushes Mikhailov against the cage but Mikhailov circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Despite the aggression on Mikhailov's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
McDonald tries to close the distance and clinch but Mikhailov swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Mikhailov misses with a low kick.
A head kick misses from Mikhailov.
We've been informed that Mikhailov has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.

A chopping leg kick lands by Mikhailov.
McDonald avoids the head kick by Mikhailov.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

McDonald misses with a takedown attempt - Mikhailov sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

McDonald pulls Mikhailov in close to his closed guard and prevents Mikhailov from doing any damage or advancing position.
Mikhailov slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
McDonald is looking to stand up but Mikhailov isn't so interested in that idea.
Mikhailov has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of McDonald is proving hard to escape from.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

McDonald looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Mikhailov throws a strike but McDonald rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Mikhailov is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
McDonald chips away with some ground and pound.
McDonald trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Mikhailov manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

Mikhailov stands over his opponent and dives in with a flying punch! McDonald throws up his legs and catches Mikhailov in a triangle! Oh this looks tight! Mikhailov tries to escape but he's forced to tap! Wow, fantastic work there by McDonald! That came out of nowhere!
