1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Ken Ryu! The judges for this bout are David Hoff, Peter Branson and Winston Alpacca.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Karamchand Gandhi throws a body kick despite being completely out of range and Ryu counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Karamchand Gandhi! Karamchand Gandhi tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Ryu wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Karamchand Gandhi can't do much from the bottom here. Ryu working the ground and pound from side control. Ryu lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face. Ryu scores with a couple of short elbows. Ryu lands a nice forearm strike. Ryu connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Karamchand Gandhi some visible discomfort.
Ryu has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Ryu landing a few strikes. Karamchand Gandhi takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head. Ryu landing a few strikes. Ryu working the ground and pound from side control. Ryu should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Ryu scoring with punches and elbows. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Ryu landing a few strikes. Ryu lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face. Ryu lands a nice forearm strike.
Karamchand Gandhi is rocked!
That's one minute gone in the round. Ryu looks up at the clock and then as Karamchand Gandhi takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Ryu smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Oh Karamchand Gandhi is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Ryu scores with punches from side control. Ryu lands a strong strike to the head of Karamchand Gandhi. That's dazed him! Ryu looking to finish here. Karamchand Gandhi is waving his arms around trying to block but he's hurt badly - Ryu lands more strikes and the referee steps in to end the fight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:22 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Ken Ryu! A relieved looking Ken Ryu thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
