PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight kickboxing rules bout between Alfonso Valdez (ranked 8617 p4p, 634 weight class) and Katsumori Suzuki (ranked 4358 p4p, 442 weight class). Valdez comes into the arena with Believer - Imagine Dragons blaring out of the sound system. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Alfonso Valdez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Katsumori Suzuki!
The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, Steven Brown and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Valdez connects with a nice looking jab.
Suzuki connects with a high kick.
Valdez swats away the attempt to clinch by Suzuki.
Valdez connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.


It looks like Katsumori Suzuki has been cut.
Valdez moves into range and connects with a jab.
Suzuki looking to land some kicks to the body here.

Valdez gets a clinch.
Suzuki is trying to break the clinch but Valdez is controlling him.
Suzuki has had enough of the clinch but Valdez keeps him there for the moment.

Valdez pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Suzuki wants to clinch up but Valdez keeps it at a distance.
Suzuki swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Valdez lands with a cross.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Valdez takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Suzuki tries a knee to the head but Valdez blocks it.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Valdez manages to break the clinch.
Suzuki tries to clinch
and Valdez counters with a stiff right hand.


Suzuki is rocked!
Suzuki moves to clinch but Valdez breaks away
and Valdez counters with a nice low kick that buckles Suzuki's knee momentarily.
Suzuki is still on wobbly legs! Can Valdez finish him?
Alfonso Valdez is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Suzuki looks winded!

Valdez takes the fight into the clinch.

Valdez breaks the clinch.

Valdez closes the distance and clinches.
Suzuki seems to have recovered his senses.

Valdez breaks from the clinch.
Valdez closes the distance and catches Suzuki with a lead hook that drops him to the canvas! Suzuki is clearly dazed and struggling here! 3,4,5,6,7 and Suzuki is up to his feet but the referee has called it off! Suzuki is still far too wobbly and he's not going to allow the fight to continue! Valdez takes it!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:25 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punch). Alfonso Valdez!
In his post fight interview, Alfonso Valdez gave a big smile as he said 'Don't call this a comeback. Don't try to throw another "give me" fight at me. I'm a Chilean and I run fast. '.
