Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Steve Sanchez (ranked 2360 p4p, 276 weight class) and Marcio Alvarez (ranked 3155 p4p, 350 weight class). Sanchez kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Where is My Mind? by Pixies. Alvarez is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Made in Brazil. Steve Sanchez has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

12 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Steve Sanchez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
9 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Marcio Alvarez! The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Nard Betker and Patrick Alders.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sanchez misses with a low kick.
Sanchez throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Alvarez sees it coming and avoids it easily. Alvarez misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Jab by Sanchez. Sanchez takes a swing at Alvarez's ribcage but misses. Sanchez jabbing away but nothing is landing. Sanchez throws a nice looking combination but Alvarez bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Alvarez with the counter takedown but Sanchez avoids it easily. Sanchez jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Sanchez throws a right hand that Alvarez ducks under and follows up with a left that Alvarez also avoids with ease. Sanchez misses with a looping left. Alvarez is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own. A punch combination from Sanchez misses. Sanchez scores with a jab to the jaw. Alvarez connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there. Sanchez looks to throw the jab but Alvarez is out of range. Alvarez looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it. Alvarez avoids a punch combination nicely.

Alvarez drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles. Sanchez misses with a left hand and Alvarez counters with a stiff right hand. Sanchez throws a big shot that misses.

Sanchez tries to counter with a takedown but Alvarez is quick to defend against it. Alvarez takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt. Alvarez avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Alvarez defending well as Sanchez loads up on a big left hand. As Sanchez backs off Alvarez throws a huge counter combo but Sanchez manages to avoid it all. Sanchez throws a lazy right hand but Alvarez sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Alvarez looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Alvarez slips under a jab from Sanchez. Alvarez gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Sanchez. Alvarez avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Alvarez swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Sanchez scores with the left hand. Alvarez knows he should have avoided that one. A looping hook to the body misses from Sanchez. Alvarez does a little dance to reset his feet. Alvarez tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away. Sanchez throws a jab but it's blocked by Alvarez. Alvarez swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made. Alvarez slips a straight right by Sanchez. Steve Sanchez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Sanchez waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Alvarez. Sanchez cracks Alvarez with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Alvarez fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Sanchez manages to avoid it. Sanchez appears to be looking for a counter takedown. Sanchez gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Sanchez misses with an uppercut. Alvarez saw that one coming. Sanchez lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Alvarez backs up against the cage.

enabling Alvarez to counter with a crisp jab. Alvarez throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Steve Sanchez dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Sanchez had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Alvarez defends it easily. Alvarez won't allow Sanchez to sweep him here. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Alvarez accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Sanchez wants to sweep but no luck. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Sanchez is working hard here to advance position. Alvarez stands up over Sanchez, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Sanchez looking to hit a scissor sweep but Alvarez is one step ahead there. Alvarez pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Sanchez is keeping the position for now.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Alvarez in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Sanchez is looking to sweep but instead, Alvarez has passed into half guard.
Sanchez tries to roll over but Alvarez keeps him under control. Sanchez is looking to control Alvarez's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Sanchez avoid being mounted? Alvarez looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Alvarez won't allow Sanchez to sweep him here. Sanchez manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Alvarez manages to get himself to full guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Alvarez working for a triangle but Sanchez defends it easily.
Sanchez passes Alvarez's left leg - he's now in half guard. Alvarez moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Sanchez landing some decent shots from guard. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Alvarez is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Alvarez has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Alvarez there as he acknowledges the shot. Sanchez throws a shot from downtown. Alvarez moves away and avoids it. Alvarez looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple. Alvarez misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Sanchez throws a hook to the side of Alvarez's head but Alvarez sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Sanchez looks to throw the jab but Alvarez is out of range. Alvarez blocks a low kick nicely. Sanchez feints a jab promting Alvarez to slip. Sanchez then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Alvarez slips again and ducks right into an uppercut. Steve Sanchez is winning the standup battle so far.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Nice cross by Sanchez. Sanchez throws a jab when Alvarez was well out of range. Alvarez takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Sanchez clobbers Alvarez with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise. Sanchez throws a jab but it's blocked by Alvarez. Sanchez missing with a left hand there. Alvarez was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Sanchez throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Alvarez sees it coming and avoids it easily. Alvarez misses with a low kick. Sanchez changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit. Alvarez steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Sanchez.

and Alvarez counters with a one-two to the body. Sanchez takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
No joy there for Sanchez, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Alvarez has a pretty nasty looking mouse under his right eye. Sanchez throws the left hand but Alvarez avoids the punch easily. Alvarez shoots in for a takedown but Sanchez shows good takedown defense. Nice defenses there by Alvarez. Sanchez looks to throw the jab but Alvarez is out of range. Sanchez throws a hook but Alvarez blocks it. Alvarez drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Sanchez defends it well. Alvarez moves out of range as Sanchez strikes. Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Sanchez.

Alvarez closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Sanchez did well to prevent Alvarez getting side control. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Sanchez tries to get to full guard but Alvarez has control of the leg. Alvarez wants to lay and pray for a moment but Sanchez keeps working. Sanchez avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Alvarez. Alvarez wants to pass to mount but Sanchez is defending the position. Alvarez wants to take a breather but Sanchez is having none of it. Sanchez is looking to improve his position.
And that's the end of the fight! Steve Sanchez showed his dominance in that final round. I think Sanchez has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
