PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jenson Jordinson (ranked 6483 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steve Butabi (ranked 6624 p4p, 0 weight class). Butabi has chosen Make That Money as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Steve Butabi!
The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, Winston Alpacca and Bart Greer.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jordinson ducks under a wild hook from Butabi.
Jordinson throws a right and a left that both miss.
Butabi throws a leg kick that misses.
Jordinson takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Butabi displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Jordinson.

Jordinson gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Butabi to score an easy takedown into full guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Jordinson is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Jordinson throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Butabi circles away from the clinch attempt.

Jordinson darts in and clinches Butabi up against the cage.
Jordinson has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Butabi is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Jordinson is breathing heavily.

Butabi's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

and Jordinson counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Jordinson.

Butabi isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Jordinson stacks Butabi on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Jordinson!

Jordinson tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Jordinson has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Butabi sneaks back into half guard.
Jordinson wants to lay and pray for a moment but Butabi keeps working.
Butabi slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Butabi escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Jordinson gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Butabi has his hands on Jordinson's head, controlling the position.

Butabi wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Butabi has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Butabi escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Jordinson gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Jordinson tries to bum rush Butabi with a series of wild strikes but Butabi uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Butabi swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Butabi has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Butabi takes a swing at Jordinson's ribcage but misses.
Jordinson misses with a jab, cross combination.
Butabi throws a body punch but Jordinson moves out of range.
Butabi paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Jordinson fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Butabi clinches up with Jordinson and pushes him back against the cage.
Jordinson tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Butabi smiles and moves away.
Jordinson misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jenson Jordinson. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Butabi drops back, looking for a kneebar! Jordinson looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Jordinson looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Jordinson!

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Butabi can do anything to dispel that myth.
You can see the frustration on Butabi's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Butabi is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Jordinson has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Butabi is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Jordinson is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Steve Butabi showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. And we move into the final round!


Butabi lands a really nice looking cross but Jordinson seems unphased.

Butabi throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Jordinson because Butabi loaded up on that one.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Butabi jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Jordinson is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Jordinson and Butabi has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Jordinson is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Butabi asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Butabi is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Jordinson has escaped the position, nice work there.
Jordinson regains half guard.
Butabi thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Jordinson's head.

Let's hope that Butabi has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Butabi is pressing down on Jordinson's thigh, looking to free his foot. Jordinson is holding on for now.
Butabi lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Butabi looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Steve Butabi is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Jordinson tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Butabi in particular looking to stall.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Steve Butabi has got the better of the ground game so far.
Butabi working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Jordinson's thigh. Jordinson counters though and makes it back to full guard.
Butabi is stalling in the full guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that's the end of the fight!
Steve Butabi comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Butabi winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
