PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between RJ McLovin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kev Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think McLovin might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Ready For The Fight. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, RJ McLovin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Kev Smith!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Sam Margolis and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McLovin blocks a head kick by Smith.

Smith shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Smith showed some decent athleticism there.
McLovin is trying to control but can't.
Smith wants to stand but McLovin has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Smith is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
McLovin is trying to get back to full guard.
McLovin keeping control of the position.
McLovin is looking for a sweep. Smith is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
McLovin dodges the punch combination from Smith.
Smith throws a head kick but McLovin moves out of range.
McLovin lands a nice leg kick that just misses Smith's sensitive parts.

McLovin closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - McLovin lands in his opponent's guard.
Smith looks gassed!
Smith is looking to stand up but McLovin isn't so interested in that idea.
McLovin wants to pass the guard but Smith is keeping the position.
McLovin sitting in guard, not really doing much.

McLovin is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Smith uses the cage to get back to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
McLovin sizes up Smith with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Kev Smith seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
McLovin cracks Smith with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.

McLovin clinches up with Smith and pushes him back against the cage.
McLovin lands with a left to the head.
Smith is looking to break free of the clinch but McLovin has double underhooks.

McLovin tightens his grip and picks Smith up, before dumping him to the ground. Smith manages to land in guard.
McLovin working some strikes from top position.
McLovin won't allow Smith to get back to his feet.
McLovin might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
McLovin seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Smith has momentary wrist control but McLovin slips an elbow through the middle.
Smith being controlled here, momentarily.

McLovin wants to control from the top but Smith keeps moving.
Smith working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from McLovin.
McLovin is pushing down on Smith's leg trying to pass to half guard. Smith is fighting to maintain full guard but McLovin has managed to sneak the leg through.

Smith is defending against the submission attempts here by McLovin.
Smith won't allow McLovin to pass to mount.
Smith is trying to stand up here but McLovin is controlling him well.
McLovin throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
McLovin performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Smith is in trouble now - McLovin has advanced to mount!

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
McLovin is in the full mount, landing strikes.
McLovin scores with a couple of good head shots there.
McLovin content just to control the position here.

McLovin scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Smith?
McLovin looking to finish Smith with some ground and pound. This is bad for Smith!

McLovin is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Smith can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
McLovin lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

RJ McLovin dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Good exchange - McLovin coming out on top.
Smith plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Smith pulls out of a head kick attempt.
McLovin lands a right hook to the body.
Smith rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but McLovin moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Smith tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

McLovin darts in and clinches Smith up against the cage.

McLovin breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

McLovin shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. McLovin showed some decent athleticism there.
McLovin looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Smith is breathing heavily.
McLovin's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
McLovin has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Smith won't allow McLovin to pass to mount.
McLovin stops Smith from getting back to his feet.
McLovin trying to control the pace.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
McLovin throwing shots but Smith is blocking nicely.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
McLovin lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

McLovin is looking for a kimura here.

McLovin stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Smith to get to his feet.
Smith wants to clinch

and McLovin counters with a takedown into side control.
Smith is trying to get back to his feet.
A lull in the action here as McLovin stalls from top position.
Smith is trying to buck McLovin off.

McLovin creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
McLovin lands some shots froms side control.
McLovin in side control lands a decent elbow.
Smith seems a little lost for a moment, as McLovin dominates the positioning.

McLovin has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Smith is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. McLovin yanks on the arm and Smith is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by McLovin.
