Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Tall Man!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
23 - 84 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Anzhor Azhiev!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Shigeki Sano and Yasuomi Hirokawa.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Azhiev looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Man scores with a punch to the head.
Man really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Good exchange - Man coming out on top.
Azhiev looks for a takedown but Man sprawls well.
Anzhor Azhiev seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Azhiev shoots in but no luck this time.
Tall Man has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Anzhor Azhiev.
Man lands a glancing blow to the side of Azhiev's head.
Man looks to land a left hand but Azhiev moved out of range nicely.
Azhiev darts in looking for a takedown but Man gets double underhooks and turns Azhiev into the cage.
Man ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Azhiev moves away.
Azhiev drops his hands momentarily and Man takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Man throws out a loose jab but Azhiev uses good head movement to avoid it.
Azhiev throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Man was covering up waiting for the punch and Azhiev finishes the takedown easily into guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Azhiev drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Azhiev jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Azhiev is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Man is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Man has escaped and now he's on top!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Azhiev is looking for a triangle but Man pushes his legs off easily.
Azhiev working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Man doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Man manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Azhiev pushes a forearm under Man's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Man is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:48 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Anzhor Azhiev!
A pretty intense looking Anzhor Azhiev took the opportunity post-fight to ask for a shot at the title.
