Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
17 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ao Ki! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
12 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Krom Kong! The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Shigeki Sano and Kenichi Hosakawa.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kong misses with a leg kick. Kong throws a low kick, looking for Ki's leg but Ki calmly moves out of range. Ki misses with a body kick. Kong looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Ki looks to land a body kick but Kong moved away. Ki moves into the clinch successfully.
Kong manages to break the clinch.
A slow jab from Kong misses its intended target. A punch combination from Kong misses. Ki gets a takedown into half guard. Kong has his hands clasped together around Ki's back. He's all about the action. Ki trying to pass the guard but Kong defending well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kong is trying to get back to full guard. Kong is not content to let Ki control the position. Kong wants to get back to his feet.
The fighters are battling for position here. Kong manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Kong really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ki. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Ki controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Ki drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Ki jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Kong is looking to stand up but Ki isn't so interested in that idea.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Kong is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. Ki tries to free his leg and advance position but Kong is retaining full guard. Ki drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Ki jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Kong wants to stand and escape but Ki is having none of it.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Ki keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Ki fails with the takedown letting Kong counter with a right hand. Kong fakes a jab and scores with a low kick. Ki closes the distance and clinches up with Kong, looking for a takedown. Ki pushes Kong against the cage but Kong circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Kong. Ki delivers a nice body kick. Ki fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Kong. Ki on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those. Ki fails miserably with a takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ao Ki. That's going to take a lot out of him. Kong throws a leg kick and Ki counters with a nice double leg into guard. Ki slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Ki trying to control but Kong is working from the bottom. Kong wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now. Ki trying to control the position from guard on top but Kong is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Ki tries to free his leg and advance position but Kong is retaining full guard. Kong keeping moving, preventing Ki from controlling successfully. Kong looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Kong tries to land a leg kick but Ki saw it coming and moves away.
Kong throws a right and a left that Ki avoids nicely. Ki throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Ki has closed the distance and engaged Kong in a clinch.
Ki keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Kong's efforts to push away. Ki on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Ao Ki will probably get the nod. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Ki lets loose with a powerful body kick. Kong will feel that in the morning. Kong misses with a head kick.
No luck for Ki with that takedown attempt. Ki keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
Ki has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him. Ki tries to land a front kick but Kong steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed. Kong with a body punch. A glancing blow. Kong tries to work over Ki's front leg with a kick but Ki checks it. Ki half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ki throws a sloppy head kick and Kong moves out of range easily. Kong misses with a jab to the body
and Ki counters with a single leg into guard. Kong didn't expect that. Kong wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Ki manages to pass to side control.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Kong is staying active underneath Ki, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kong is trying to get back to full guard. Kong is trying to stand up here but Ki is controlling him well. Ki looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Ki is looking to take a break and control but Kong is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Kong is looking for a sweep. Ki is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Kong is not content to let Ki control the position. Ki is controlling the pace.
Ao Ki overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Ki seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Kong does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Kong tries to roll over but Ki keeps him under control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kong trying to control here.
Ki is looking for a kimura here.
Ki maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Kong could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Ki has cracked it and Kong is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Ki!
