Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Lester Avila (ranked 9221 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jos Vander (ranked 6150 p4p, 597 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Lester Avila!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Jos Vander!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Andrew Berry and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Vander rushes Avila and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Vander fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Avila is working for takedown but Vander is calmly controlling the position for now.
Vander prevents a takedown attempt there.
Avila takes a knee to the side of the body.

Vander's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Vander throws a head kick that misses.
Avila seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
Vander misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Avila wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Vander closes the distance and clinches.
Vander changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Avila fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Lester Avila has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jos Vander.

Vander shoots in but Avila avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Avila seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
Some wild striking there from Vander.
Vander takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Jos Vander seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Avila forces Vander back against the cage and clinches.
Avila misses with a punch on the inside.

Vander escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Vander looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Avila is fending him off so far but Vander persists. Nope, Avila circles away and we're back to standing.

Vander clinches.
Vander lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.


It looks like Lester Avila has been cut.
Avila tries for a takedown. No joy.

Vander breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Vander dives in and grabs Avila's left leg, looking for a takedown. Avila pushes down on Vander's head and hops out.
Vander lands a slapping body shot.
Vander throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Avila tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Vander manages to circle out of the way.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Avila jumps guard but Vander turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Vander lands a right hand that snaps the head of Avila backwards.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Avila takes a shot to the head.
Vander gets underhooks to prevent Avila's takedown attempt.

Vander pulls guard effortlessly.

Vander working for submissions but it's allowed Avila to get to half guard.
Vander missing with punches from the bottom.
Ground and pound from Avila.
Avila will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Avila is nestled in close to Vander, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Avila working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Vander is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Avila's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Avila's back!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Avila looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Vander swats away the attempt to clinch by Avila.

Vander closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Vander drags the fight down to the ground.
Vander is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Vander has momentary wrist control but Avila slips an elbow through the middle.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Vander looking for subs off his back but Avila has passed one foot through into half guard.
Vander is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Avila jumps into side control!

Avila gets to mount! Vander was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
Avila with shots to the head and body - Vander looks very uncomfortable down there.
Avila postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Vander looks a forlorn figure.
Avila fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Vander sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Nice strikes from Avila there.
Avila is thwarting Vander's attempts to control the position.
Avila lands strikes from half guard.
Vander is trying to control but Avila passes into side control!
Avila in side control lands a decent elbow.
Vander takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Vander is working to avoid the ground and pound but Avila connects with a decent elbow.

You can see the frustration on Vander's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Vander can do anything to dispel that myth.
Vander is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Avila is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
Avila fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Vander tries to lock up and control but Avila gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Vander is breathing heavily.
Avila looking to finish Vander with some ground and pound. This is bad for Vander!
Avila pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Avila lands a big shot there that rocks Vander but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Avila cracks Vander with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Vander really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Avila. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Vander tries to hold on but Avila postures up.
Avila is landing with some decent strikes but Vander is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Avila lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.

Vander is in a horrible position here. Avila smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!



Avila gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Vander to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Avila thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Avila is pulling down on Vander's head to control his posture.
Avila keeping moving, preventing Vander from controlling successfully.

Avila pushes a forearm under Vander's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Vander is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
