PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Dimitri Aristova (ranked 3319 p4p, 158 weight class) and Juan Sorola (ranked 5157 p4p, 235 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Dimitri Aristova!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Juan Sorola !
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Jonathan Paton and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sorola misses with a few strikes there.
The fight stays on the outside here - Sorola looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Aristova shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Sorola pinned against the cage. Sorola gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Sorola wants to clinch

and Aristova counters with a nice double leg into side control. Sorola won't be happy with that.

Aristova decides to stand back up. Aristova steps back and let's Sorola get back to his feet.

Aristova shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Sorola is trying to defend but Aristova finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Sorola is trying to escape back to his feet but Aristova uses the scramble to pass into side control.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Aristova passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Sorola !

Sorola 's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Aristova goes for an armbar but Sorola turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Sorola .

Aristova has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Aristova wants to sweep here but Sorola controlling him for the moment.

Aristova seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.

Sorola throws a series of punches but Aristova avoids them all with ease.

Aristova shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Sorola pushes Aristova off and gets back to his feet.

Aristova drives through and clinches with Sorola against the cage.

Sorola wants to break the clinch but can't.

Aristova slows down the pace here.

Aristova works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Aristova in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Sorola wants to stand and escape but Aristova is having none of it.
Sorola wants to get back to his feet but Aristova passes into half guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Aristova is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Sorola sees it coming and defends easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sorola makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Dimitri Aristova will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


No joy there for Sorola , who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Sorola throws a combination that misses

and Aristova counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Aristova content to stall in guard here.

Sorola scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Aristova dodges the punch combination from Sorola .
Sorola will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Sorola wants to clinch but Aristova slips to the side

and Aristova counters with a nice double leg into side control. Sorola won't be happy with that.
Sorola bucks up and tries to throw Aristova off but instead Aristova has got his back!
Sorola really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Aristova. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Aristova has good solid back control here.

Aristova's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Dimitri Aristova overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Sorola is trying to stand. He's onto all fours with Aristova on his back. Aristova looks like he's slipping off but he's actually tansitioning to a beautiful armbar! Sorola has to tap out to a very impressive submission!
