PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Eric Patrick (ranked 6084 p4p, 0 weight class) and Richard Mckay (ranked 9248 p4p, 682 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Richard Mckay!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Donald Grub and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mckay fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Patrick sprawls well initially but Mckay persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Patrick tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Mckay manages to move to mount!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Patrick tries to reverse the position but Mckay maintains control.
Patrick might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Mckay looking to secure an arm triangle but Patrick defends it well.
Patrick is wriggling around trying to escape.
Patrick sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Mckay drops an elbow to the side of Patrick's head.
Patrick could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Patrick is trying to stand.

Patrick makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Mckay scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Patrick is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Mckay asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Mckay is looking to take a break and control but Patrick is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Patrick is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

Patrick is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Mckay has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Mckay is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Patrick has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Patrick tries to hold on but Mckay postures up.
Mckay scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Patrick?
Patrick is squirming around, avoiding Mckay's attempts to control the action.

Mckay has control of Patrick's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Patrick regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Patrick is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
Patrick bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Mckay escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Patrick gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Mckay working for a triangle but Patrick defends it easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Richard Mckay dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Patrick throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Mckay tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Patrick is in Mckay's guard.
Patrick is standing up over Mckay. Mckay looks to escape but Patrick dives into side control.

Mckay misses with an elbow from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mckay is looking for a sweep.
Patrick remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

What can Mckay do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!
Patrick is not going to allow Mckay to sit and survive in this position.

Patrick has got his arm under Mckay's chin working for the choke… has he got it? It looks pretty tight! Oh! Mckay has spun round into Patrick's guard beautifully! Well done that man!
Patrick is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Mckay drops back looking for a leg! Patrick is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Patrick manages to kick Mckay off! Mckay jumps back into Patrick's guard.
Patrick wants to stand but Mckay is controlling the position.

Mckay thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Patrick wants to get back to his feet but Mckay is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Mckay postures up.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Richard Mckay seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Patrick closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Eric Patrick dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!



Mckay shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Patrick's guard.
Patrick tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Mckay stops Patrick from standing up.
Patrick is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Mckay dives into side control.

Patrick pushes Mckay away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Mckay gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Patrick bucks up and tries to throw Mckay off but instead Mckay has got his back!
Mckay has the hooks in. Patrick is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

Mckay is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Patrick defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.

Mckay has got one arm under Patrick's chin. This could be trouble... Patrick trying to control the other hand but Mckay gets it free and sqeezes tight - just a matter of time now! Yep, Patrick has tapped out! The fight is over!
