Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Avila Alvarez (ranked 4183 p4p, 432 weight class) and Mario Puzo (ranked 4518 p4p, 460 weight class). Alvarez comes to the cage accompanied by Barbarian by The Darkness. Puzo has chosen Speak Softly Love as his entrance music. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

and Puzo counters with a left and a right that stings Alvarez.
Puzo looks to throw the jab but Alvarez is out of range.

Puzo throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Alvarez stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Puzo dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Alvarez. That did some damage!

Puzo leaves Alvarez with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Alvarez shoots in looking for a takedown. Puzo tries to sprawl out of it but Alvarez keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Puzo manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
It seemed like Puzo was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

Alvarez closes this distance looking for a takedown but Puzo circles away.
Puzo throws out a counter right but Alvarez avoids it with no problem.

Alvarez's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Puzo connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Alvarez scrambles back to his feet.

and Puzo counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Puzo throws a body punch but Alvarez moves out of range.
Alvarez shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Puzo sprawls well. Puzo wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Alvarez gets slowly back to his feet.

Puzo replies with a solid counter kick to the body but Alvarez blocks it well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alvarez shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Puzo as he jumps to the side.

Alvarez goes for a double leg but Puzo avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Puzo continues to drive forward.
Puzo comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

Alvarez drops down looking for a counter takedown but Puzo sprawls and moves away.

Puzo feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Alvarez's calf.
Oh Alvarez is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Alvarez looks up at the clock. Bad move! Puzo lands a right hand from hell, dropping Alvarez. Puzo pounces and finishes the fight with a flurry of punches and elbows.

Mario Puzo was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
In defeat, Avila Alvarez stepped up to the mic, saying 'I'm so pissed, man. I trained so hard for this camp too.'.
