Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
19 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jose Correa! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
12 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Tane Huia! The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Anni Minnemäki and Roosa Järviläinen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Correa shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Correa was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! The strikes coming from Correa are missing the target in this wave of attacks. Correa tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Correa has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Huia is looking to reverse the position. Huia is being controlled here. Correa working away. An elbow from Correa crashes against the mat.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Correa working the ground and pound but Huia is defending the strikes. Correa has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. Huia wants to control but Correa postures up. Correa misses with an attempted head punch from side control. Correa throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage. Correa advances nicely into full mount.
That's one minute gone in the round. BOOM! Correa connects with a massive shot to the dome!
It looks like Tane Huia has been cut. Huia holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Correa tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Correa wants to control the pace but Huia is squirming around nicely. Huia is working to get back to half guard.

Correa controlling his opponent. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Correa looking to finish with strikes here!

That's two minutes gone in the round. Huia is trying desperately to improve position. Correa postures up and throws a couple of big shots that have Huia in real trouble here! The ref calls for Huia to improve his position which he doesn't do, so the referee has no choice but to end the fight due to the strikes!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:31 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jose Correa! Jose Correa was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed. The defeated Tane Huia had this to say: 'N'wah fetcher, s'wit!'.
