Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 21 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jan Pope!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 31 - 24 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Hugo Wolf!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Reed Andrews and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pope misses with a wild body shot.
Wolf tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Pope looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.

Wolf forces Pope back against the cage and clinches.
Wolf tries to pull guard but Pope forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Pope misses with the head strike.
Wolf wants to take the fight to the mat but Pope manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Wolf tries for a takedown. No joy.
Jan Pope has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Hugo Wolf.
Pope misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Wolf changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Pope fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Pope throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Pope comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Wolf gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Pope fails with a takedown attempt.
And Wolf tries to counter it with a takedown but Pope pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Wolf wants to clinch up but Pope keeps it at a distance.

Pope lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Pope connects with a solid leg kick.
Pope lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Wolf at a distance.
Wolf fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Pope misses with a body shot.
Wolf drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Pope defends it well.

Wolf has taken the fight to the clinch.
Pope blocking some punches.
Wolf tries for a takedown but Pope manages to get underhooks.
Pope gets underhooks to prevent Wolf's takedown attempt.
Pope misses with a hook to the ribs.
Pope gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Wolf.

Pope escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Pope looks to land a combination but Wolf avoids it well.
Wolf doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Pope uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Pope takes the fight into the clinch.
I was talking to Pope's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Pope scores with a shot to the side of Wolf's head.
Pope tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Wolf avoids it.

Wolf pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Pope defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Wolf.
Pope throwing a counter right hand but Wolf manages to avoid it.
Pope stuffs the takedown.
Wolf takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Pope is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
Pope throws a combination. Wolf tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Pope keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Wolf tries to close the distance and clinch up but Pope swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Nice uppercut lands for Pope. That snapped Wolf's head back.
Wolf gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Pope.
Wolf dives in and grabs Pope's left leg, looking for a takedown. Pope pushes down on Wolf's head and hops out.
Pope works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.

Pope rushes Wolf and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Pope misses with a punch on the inside.
Wolf has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Pope is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Pope is pressed up against the cage. Wolf has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Pope down to the mat. Pope avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Wolf tries to move into range but Pope moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
A punch lands to the side of Wolf 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Wolf shoots in but Pope avoids the takedown attempt easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Wolf takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Wolf drops his hands momentarily and Pope takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Wolf closes the distance and clinches up with Pope, looking for a takedown. Wolf pushes Pope against the cage but Pope circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Pope swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
Wolf misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Pope jinks towards his opponent looking like he wants to counter with a mid kick but doesn't commit.
Pope turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.

Wolf shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Pope moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.

Pope closes the distance and clinches.
Pope trying to land knees to the body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jan Pope dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Pope throws a low kick, looking for Wolf's leg but Wolf calmly moves out of range.

Wolf throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Pope tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Wolf is in Pope's guard.
Pope is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Pope controls Wolf momentarily but Wolf frees himself.
Wolf landing with the ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Wolf cracks Pope with a solid left hand.
Pope wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Wolf is now in half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pope is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Wolf lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Wolf not landing any meaningful shots this time.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Wolf seems to be working for a kimura but Pope defends the submission attempt.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Wolf lands a nice short elbow.
Wolf working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Pope is pressing down on Wolf's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Pope preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Wolf stands and throws Pope's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Wolf lands some shots froms side control.


Pope is rocked!
Wolf lands a nice forearm strike.
Oh Pope is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Pope controls the position for a moment.
Wolf in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.

Wolf grinds an elbow into Pope's temple.
Wolf landing a few strikes.
Wolf lands a huge shot from side control! Pope is out cold! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:38 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Hugo Wolf!
An out of breath Hugo Wolf thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
