Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Shamil Saadulaev!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Gilberto Tanquinho!
The judges for this bout are Peter Branson, Dirk Anderson and Sandra Marshall.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Saadulaev lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.

Tanquinho gets caught napping as Saadulaev dives in and scores a takedown. Tanquinho manages to retain guard.

Tanquinho is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Saadulaev seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Saadulaev lands a nice short elbow.

Saadulaev seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Tanquinho for as long as he can get away with.
Tanquinho is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Saadulaev jumps into side control!

Saadulaev is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Tanquinho's shoulder. That is not cool.

Saadulaev closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Tanquinho flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Tanquinho has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Saadulaev is trying to work for a kimura but Tanquinho is defending well.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Saadulaev has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Shamil Saadulaev overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Saadulaev is nestled in close to Tanquinho, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
