The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alvarez misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Woodley Jr clinches with his opponent.
Woodley Jr pulls guard effortlessly.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Alvarez is looking to work some ground and pound but Woodley Jr has wrist control.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Woodley Jr seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
