PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Athan Pallas (ranked 2654 p4p, 289 weight class) and Jhin Markell (ranked 3187 p4p, 341 weight class). Pallas comes to the cage accompanied by Greeks on Attack. Jhin Markell will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jhin Markell!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Markell tries to bum rush Pallas with a series of wild strikes but Pallas uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Markell closes the distance and pushes Pallas back into the cage.
Pallas goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Pallas leaning his opponent against the cage.
Markell misses with some punches.
Pallas creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.

Pallas wants the takedown. Markell is fighting it off but Pallas persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Markell's guard against the cage.
Pallas has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Pallas wants to pass the guard but Markell is keeping the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Pallas seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.

Pallas had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Markell defends it easily.
Pallas has momentary wrist control but Markell slips an elbow through the middle.

Markell sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Pallas's guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Markell is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

Markell looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Pallas knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Markell on the ground.

Pallas fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Markell is out of range.

Pallas is looking for a counter combo.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Pallas can't do much from the bottom here.
We've been informed that Markell has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Pallas manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Markell postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Pallas is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Markell is working Pallas over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Markell lands a couple of digs.

Pallas isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Markell stacks Pallas on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Markell!

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Markell connects with a nice short shot to Pallas's temple.

Markell lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Markell seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Pallas does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
