Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Shamil Amirov! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Stanley Ketchel! The judges for this bout are Bart Greer, Santiago Holmes and Michael Johnstone.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Amirov gets a double leg takedown into Ketchel's guard. Ketchel bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Amirov's guard. Amirov seems keen to control Ketchel's posture. Amirov throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Amirov working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Ketchel doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Ketchel manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Amirov is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Amirov managing to control the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ketchel trying to control but Amirov is working from the bottom. Ketchel got a little sloppy there for a moment and Amirov has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Ketchel has managed to get both his arms back between Amirov's legs - danger averted. Amirov is pulling down on Ketchel's head. It's preventing any offense from Ketchel, at least for the moment. Amirov is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Amirov is looking for a triangle but Ketchel pushes his legs off easily.
Amirov seems keen to control Ketchel's posture. Amirov looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Amirov is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Amirov wriggles free and stands up.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ketchel throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Amirov closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Amirov moves into full mount! Ketchel won't be happy about that! Ketchel has left one of his arms exposed and Amirov doesn't need a second invitation. He's isolated it and locked on a tight armbar. Ketchel screams and taps out, obviously in a lot of pain. Hopefully there isn't permanent damage to that arm.
