Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Joseph Miranda! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Saulo Chavez! The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, Chris Edwards and James Glass.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Miranda fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Chavez has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage. A momentary lapse in concentration from Miranda enables Chavez to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Miranda manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Chavez wants to control from the top but Miranda keeps moving. Chavez pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Miranda is keeping the position for now. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Miranda holds on and takes a little breather. Miranda working for a triangle but Chavez defends it easily.
Chavez throws a big right hand that misses. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Chavez trying to control but Miranda is working from the bottom. Miranda managing to control the position. Chavez wants to control from the top but Miranda keeps moving.
That's one minute gone in the round. Chavez pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Miranda is keeping the position for now. Chavez trying to control but Miranda is working from the bottom. Miranda has his foot on Chavez's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Chavez works his way back into a safe position though. Miranda keeping moving, preventing Chavez from controlling successfully.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Chavez changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Miranda looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Chavez throws a strike aimed at the side of Miranda's head but Miranda avoids it well. Miranda trying his best to control but Chavez has mounted him. Chavez looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead. Chavez working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. Miranda turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Chavez off and cradles Miranda's limp body as Chavez celebrates with his corner.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Anaconda Choke). Saulo Chavez!
