Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
28 - 27 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Black Coleman! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
11 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Bill Newton! The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, John Roberts and Bruno Lombardi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A punch lands to the side of Newton 's head but he takes it in his stride. Newton misses with a takedown attempt - Coleman sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Nice shot lands for Newton. Newton lands a nice shot to the body.
Coleman darts in and clinches Newton up against the cage. Newton has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Coleman uses from the top position. Coleman preventing the sweep. Coleman trying to control but Newton is working from the bottom. Coleman postures up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Newton keeping moving, preventing Coleman from controlling successfully. Newton is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Coleman trying to control but Newton is working from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Newton wants to sweep but no luck. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Coleman has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Coleman throwing strikes from guard but Newton blocks nicely. Coleman wanted to stand there but Newton had control of the position.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Newton uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Coleman. Newton fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Coleman avoids it really well and circles away. The fight moves into the clinch position. Newton tries to throw a body punch but Coleman avoids it by throwing Newton back against the cage.

Black Coleman has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bill Newton. Coleman tries a body shot but Newton blocks it.
Newton gets through Coleman's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head. Newton misses with a shot to the kidneys.

That's three minutes gone in the round. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Coleman accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Coleman distracts Newton with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Coleman landing with the ground and pound. Newton working a defensive guard here.
Coleman keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Newton's head. Newton looking for a guillotine here but Coleman defends easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Coleman is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Newton is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Newton has escaped and now he's on top! Coleman wants to get back to his feet but Newton is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Newton stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Coleman swivels though and keeps the full guard. Newton won't allow Coleman to sweep him here. Newton prevents Coleman from getting back to his feet. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Coleman looking for subs off his back but Newton has passed one foot through into half guard.
Newton is looking for a kimura but Coleman is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Newton to get the leverage. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Bill Newton will probably get the nod. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Newton shoots in and drives through. Coleman sprawls well. Newton dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Newton tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Coleman was well out of range. Poor timing from Newton. Coleman gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Newton tries to free his leg and advance position but Coleman is retaining full guard. Newton drops back, looking for a kneebar! Coleman looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Coleman looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Coleman! Coleman working the head with strikes. Newton takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better. Check out the look on Coleman's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
That's one minute gone in the round. Coleman tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Coleman stands up and we're back to a striking position. Coleman gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Coleman throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Newton blocks it with crossed arms. A nice left hand lands by Coleman.

Newton manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Newton looking to pass the guard.

Newton trying to control the position from guard on top but Coleman is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Newton stopping the sweep attempt from Coleman. Coleman darts in and clinches Newton up against the cage.

Newton drops down looking for an ankle pick but Coleman pulls his leg out and moves away.
Newton is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Coleman rather than just go for the knockout. Coleman throws a right hand that Newton ducks under and follows up with a left that Newton also avoids with ease. Newton feints the counter takedown. Black Coleman is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Newton slips a jab and a cross from Coleman.
Newton is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here. Coleman throws a lazy right hand but Newton sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Newton shoots in looking for a takedown but Coleman manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Newton's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Coleman clinches with his opponent.

Black Coleman dominated that second round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!
Newton on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere. Coleman swings for the body but Newton moves out of range.
Black Coleman is winning the standup battle so far. Coleman scores with the left hand. Newton knows he should have avoided that one. Coleman lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Newton gets tackled into the cage by Coleman. Coleman maintains the clinch. Coleman is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Newton can do to turn this around? Newton is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Coleman to keep the fight standing. Our sources have told us that Coleman has been working on his knees in the buildup to the fight. Coleman blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Coleman lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards. Coleman prevents the takedown attempt.

Newton pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Coleman tumbling to the mat - Newton dives into Coleman's guard. This has been an exciting period of action! That's one minute gone in the round. Newton is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Coleman sees it coming and defends easily. Newton wants to pass to mount but Coleman is defending the position. Coleman is defending against the submission attempts here by Newton.

That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Still in half guard, Newton seems content to control. Coleman regains full guard. Nicely done. Coleman is striking off his back. Newton thinks nothing of it though and passes easily into half guard. Newton seems to be working for a kimura but Coleman defends the submission attempt. Newton is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Coleman defends it well. Coleman actively working from the bottom here. Bill Newton has got the better of the ground game so far.

Newton stalling away here and it's allowed Coleman to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard. Newton pushes down on Coleman's leg and manages to get into half guard. Newton is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Coleman is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
