PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Half Dollar (ranked 23418 p4p, 778 weight class) and Monson Gleaves (ranked 4589 p4p, 545 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Gleaves's choice of entrance music: Somebody I Used To Know. Monson Gleaves will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Half Dollar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Monson Gleaves!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Radbod Blank and Nard Betker.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gleaves decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Dollar might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Gleaves wants to work for an arm triangle but Dollar is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Gleaves is trying to control the action in half guard but Dollar is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Dollar is looking to improve his position.
Gleaves is controlling the pace.
Gleaves passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Dollar!

Gleaves pushes down on Dollar's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Dollar is staying active underneath Gleaves, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Gleaves seems to be looking for submissions.
Gleaves uses his free foot to push down on Dollar's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Dollar.

Dollar is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at 10th planet rio, so we'll see if he gets out of it.

Gleaves tries to pass to full mount but Dollar defends it.
Gleaves lands with a punch from half guard.
Gleaves wants to control but Dollar is keeping him busy.
Gleaves might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Dollar haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gleaves tries to pass the half guard into mount. Dollar knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Dollar stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Dollar wants it to stay on the feet.
Gleaves shoots in but no luck this time.
Dollar throws a chopping leg kick but Gleaves manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Gleaves.
Half Dollar has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Monson Gleaves.
Gleaves shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Dollar sprawls well. Dollar wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Gleaves gets slowly back to his feet.
Dollar throws a leg kick but Gleaves sees it coming and moves out of range.
Gleaves shoots in looking for a takedown but Dollar manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Gleaves's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Gleaves moves into range and clinches up with Dollar.
Gleaves drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Dollar gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Dollar breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

A bone on bone clash there as Gleaves blocks the leg kick.
Gleaves changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Dollar tries to avoid it but Gleaves manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Dollar to the ground. Dollar escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Monson Gleaves seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Dollar stuffs the takedown attempt from Gleaves. Gleaves gets slowly back to his feet.
Gleaves has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Horrible takedown attempt by Gleaves or perhaps it was just good defense by Dollar, which made it look bad.

Gleaves wants to take a breather but Dollar is having none of it.

Gleaves slips a nice elbow through Dollar's hands, connecting with Dollar's forehead.

Gleaves is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Dollar is just riding it out for now. Gleaves eventually gives up the hold.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Gleaves lands a nice short elbow.

Monson Gleaves showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! And we move into the final round!


Gleaves uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Dollar.
Dollar leaves Gleaves with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Gleaves tries to clinch there but Dollar circles away.
Dollar throws a hook but Gleaves blocks it.

Gleaves shoots in looking for a takedown. Dollar tries to sprawl out of it but Gleaves keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Dollar manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Half Dollar has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Monson Gleaves.
Gleaves gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Dollar.

Gleaves in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Dollar tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Gleaves!
