Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jose Diaz! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Stan Lazarith! The judges for this bout are Winston Alpacca, Peter Branson and Sandra Marshall.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Lazarith throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Diaz's head. Lazarith misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Lazarith throws a right and a left that Diaz avoids nicely. We've been informed that Lazarith has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result. A head kick misses from Lazarith. Diaz blocks a head kick by Lazarith.
Lazarith thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Diaz if he has to take too many more of those.
Lazarith throws a sloppy head kick and Diaz moves out of range easily. Diaz definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Diaz tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Lazarith was well out of range. Poor timing from Diaz. Lazarith pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way. Diaz avoids the head kick by Lazarith.
Diaz swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect. Lazarith throws a head kick but Diaz moves out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Lazarith displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Diaz throws out the jab. Lazarith misses with an attempted mid kick.
Diaz takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Lazarith throws a lazy head kick and Diaz counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
It looks like Stan Lazarith has been cut. Lazarith lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
That's one minute gone in the round. Diaz rushes Lazarith and presses him up against the cage. Lazarith tries to work over Diaz's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target. Diaz has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Lazarith uses from the top position. Lazarith has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Diaz is proving hard to escape from. Diaz seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Lazarith is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Lazarith is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Diaz.
