PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Frank Lloyd (ranked 2145 p4p, 295 weight class) and Steve Steward (ranked 2364 p4p, 329 weight class). Steward has chosen CFO% - Worlds Apart as his entrance music. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Frank Lloyd! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Steve Steward! The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Alyssa Summers and Franklyn Lucas.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Lloyd keeps the fight on the outside. Steward misses the body punch enabling Lloyd to counter with a crisp jab. Steward throws a body shot but no joy. Lloyd is looking for a counter combo. Lloyd throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Lloyd comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range. Steward misses with a right hand and Lloyd counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Steward thinking. Jab, jab by Steward - just one landing. Lloyd takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Steward walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush. Lloyd keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Steward. A swing and a miss from Steward. Lloyd ducks under a wild hook from Steward. Steward takes a jab right on the kisser.
Steve Steward seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Steward throws a right hand that misses
enabling Lloyd to counter with a crisp jab. Lloyd lands a two punch combo.
Steward misses with a right hand and Lloyd makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
That's one minute gone in the round. Steward swings widly with a right hand
and Lloyd counters with a left to the body. Steward throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Lloyd sees it coming and avoids it easily. Steward missing with a left hand there. Lloyd was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Steward lands with a nice body punch. Lloyd lands a really nice looking cross but Steward seems unphased.
It looks like Steve Steward has been cut. Lloyd misses with a straight left. Steward throws a hook but Lloyd blocks it. Lloyd keeps the fight on the outside. Steward displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Lloyd throws out the jab. Steward's corner calls for a 1-2. Steward obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range. Steward is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Lloyd. Lloyd avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
A shot to the body from Steward misses and Lloyd connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Lloyd's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Lloyd duly obliges.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Steward tests Lloyd's chin there with a solid looking shot. Lloyd cracks Steward with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Steward is rocked! Steward walks straight into a right hand from Lloyd - that's dropped him! Lloyd jumps into mount and starts pounding away - can he finish?! More strikes go undefended and the referee has to dive in to save Steward from any more punishment! Steward complains about the stoppage but falls over as he tries to stand back up, so it was clearly a good stoppage.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:21 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Frank Lloyd! A loyal slave to those sponsorship dollars, Frank Lloyd made sure he mentioned Free Bands inc., along with how happy he was to win his fight.
