Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Patrick Richardson (ranked 6110 p4p, 0 weight class) and Juan Gonzalez (ranked 6223 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Patrick Richardson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Juan Gonzalez! The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Don Winkell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Richardson throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Gonzalez's waist but Gonzalez gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Richardson off to one side. Gonzalez shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Richardson pinned against the cage. Richardson gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Richardson went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected. Gonzalez fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Richardson closes the distance and clinches up with Gonzalez, looking for a takedown. Richardson pushes Gonzalez against the cage but Gonzalez circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Richardson displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Gonzalez. Patrick Richardson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Juan Gonzalez. No luck for Gonzalez with that takedown attempt. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Gonzalez shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Richardson defends it nicely. Richardson half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
That's one minute gone in the round. Richardson tries a head kick but it misses.
Horrible takedown attempt by Gonzalez or perhaps it was just good defense by Richardson, which made it look bad. Richardson fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Gonzalez to the ground. Richardson is now in Gonzalez's guard. Gonzalez has momentary wrist control but Richardson slips an elbow through the middle. Richardson stays in close to Gonzalez's body and controls the position. Richardson trying to control but Gonzalez is working from the bottom. Richardson throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Gonzalez works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Richardson wants to control from the top but Gonzalez keeps moving. Gonzalez is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Richardson defends well. Richardson pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Gonzalez is keeping the position for now. Richardson throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Gonzalez works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Richardson is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Richardson really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Richardson wants to control from the top but Gonzalez keeps moving. Gonzalez keeping full guard, as Richardson tries to pass.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Richardson checks a low kick from Gonzalez. Gonzalez goes for a double leg but Richardson avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Richardson continues to drive forward. Gonzalez tries a head kick but it misses.

That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Richardson clinches with his opponent.

Both guys are working to get underhooks. Gonzalez wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Richardson has had enough of the clinch but Gonzalez keeps him there for the moment. Gonzalez is looking to take this one to the mat. Richardson pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Gonzalez fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Richardson avoids it really well and circles away. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Horrible takedown attempt by Richardson or perhaps it was just good defense by Gonzalez, which made it look bad. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gonzalez tries to close the distance and clinch but Richardson swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Richardson throws a counter high kick but Gonzalez was just alert enough to avoid it. Richardson throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. A left and a right from Richardson both land. Nice combination. The fight stays on the outside here - Gonzalez looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Gonzalez displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Richardson. Gonzalez shoots in for a takedown but Richardson shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Richardson attempts a counter takedown but Gonzalez avoids it well and moves away. Gonzalez gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Richardson counters with a takedown into side control. Gonzalez is breathing heavily. Richardson landing strikes. Richardson trying to control the action but Gonzalez is working from the bottom. Richardson has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Gonzalez!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Gonzalez tries to hold on but Richardson postures up. Richardson trying to control but he's not successful this time. Richardson goes for an armbar but Gonzalez turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Gonzalez. Richardson has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Gonzalez has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Richardson manages to break the clinch.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Richardson closes this distance looking for a takedown but Gonzalez circles away. Richardson shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Gonzalez defends it nicely. Gonzalez will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Richardson circles away from the clinch attempt.

Richardson tries to sprawl out of it but Gonzalez keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Richardson manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Richardson tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Gonzalez manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Richardson misses with a takedown attempt - Gonzalez sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Gonzalez tries to counter with a clinch but Richardson shakes him off and moves away. Patrick Richardson is winning the standup battle so far. Richardson fails with the takedown. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Gonzalez misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Richardson is defended easily by Gonzalez. Richardson fails to land with a series of punches.
Richardson leaves Gonzalez with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Richardson tries to counter with a takedown but Gonzalez is quick to defend against it. Gonzalez is looking to clinch. The fight stays on the outside here - Richardson looks like he's thinking about clinching though. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Richardson takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness. Richardson shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Gonzalez is trying to maintain the position but Richardson is very close to passing his half guard. Gonzalez is not content to let Richardson control the position. Gonzalez is looking for a sweep. Richardson is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Gonzalez is looking to control Richardson's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Gonzalez avoid being mounted?
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Gonzalez is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Richardson decides to stand up. Gonzalez fakes a jab and scores with a low kick. Gonzalez fails with the takedown and Richardson counters with a right hand to the body. Gonzalez tries a head kick but it misses.
Gonzalez takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Gonzalez wants to clinch up but Richardson keeps it at a distance. Gonzalez darts in looking for a takedown but Richardson gets double underhooks and turns Gonzalez into the cage. Patrick Richardson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Juan Gonzalez.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Richardson fails with the takedown and Gonzalez counters with a stiff right hand. Richardson bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Richardson wants to lay and pray for a moment but Gonzalez keeps working.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Richardson stands up and beckons Gonzalez to his feet. Richardson is looking to clinch but Gonzalez is avoiding it.

Gonzalez looks for a takedown but Richardson sprawls well. Juan Gonzalez has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Patrick Richardson is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Gonzalez works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Patrick Richardson. Well Richardson has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win...
