Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Zoran Paunovic! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
22 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Nam Ho ! The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Taro Takaoka and Shigeki Sano.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Paunovic slips a straight right by Ho . We've been told by Paunovic's head coaches at Soul Supremacy Rio that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight. Ho connects with a crisp jab. Paunovic swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Ho lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Paunovic at a distance.
Ho blocks the body kick.
Ho has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout. Paunovic getting the better of the striking in that exchange. Ho lands with an uppercut that bounces Paunovic off the cage and back into range. Zoran Paunovic seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Ho works over Paunovic's head and body with a nice combination.
It looks like Zoran Paunovic has been cut. Paunovic uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Ho . The fight stays on the outside here - Paunovic looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Ho missing with a left hand there. Paunovic was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Paunovic has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Paunovic there as he acknowledges the shot. Ho avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Paunovic scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent. Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Paunovic. A big left from Ho misses. Paunovic ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Ho moves away. Ho looks to land a right hand but Paunovic moved out of range.
That's one minute gone in the round. Paunovic misses with an uppercut
and Ho counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Paunovic slips under a jab. A head kick by Paunovic misses and Ho counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Paunovic is rocked! Ho lands with a big right hook that stumbles Paunovic - he's out on his feet here! Ho follows up with another monster hook that separates Paunovic from consciousness! Paunovic falls, almost in slow motion to the canvas! Ho stands and admires his work as the crowd go wild.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:19 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Nam Ho ! Nam Ho was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
