Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 3 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Kaplan Temrezov! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Zhasulan Boranbayev! The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Valeri Chadov and Ivan Kurochkin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Temrezov has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him. Boranbayev displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Temrezov. Danga de danga de dang - Boranbayev scores with a four punch combination! Temrezov moves out of range of the body kick. Boranbayev's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Boranbayev duly obliges. Temrezov throws a wild body kick that Boranbayev sees coming a mile off. Boranbayev is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own. Temrezov misses with a two punch combination.
Boranbayev displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Temrezov. Temrezov is breathing heavily. Temrezov shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Boranbayev pinned against the cage. Boranbayev gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kaplan Temrezov. That's going to take a lot out of him.
That's one minute gone in the round. Boranbayev tries to close the distance and clinch but Temrezov swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Boranbayev stuffs the takedown. Boranbayev closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Temrezov quickly recovers to half guard. Boranbayev controlling the action here. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Temrezov looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Temrezov trying to hold on to Boranbayev's head to control him but Boranbayev postures up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Boranbayev thows a huge punch but Temrezov dodges it nicely.
Temrezov has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Boranbayev is working away from the top position though. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Boranbayev stalling. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Boranbayev shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Temrezov pinned against the cage. Temrezov gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Temrezov looks to score with a jab to the body but Boranbayev is just out of range. Temrezov shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Boranbayev pinned against the cage. Boranbayev gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Temrezov has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Boranbayev has passed into side control.
Temrezov is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Boranbayev asserts his dominance and retains side control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Boranbayev controlling the position. Boranbayev misses with an attempted head punch from side control. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Boranbayev throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage. Temrezov wants to get back to his feet but Boranbayev drags him back down. Temrezov trying to control but Boranbayev flips him over like a cheap hooker and has his back! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Zhasulan Boranbayev dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Boranbayev tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Temrezov manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Temrezov is looking to counter with a shot to the body. Boranbayev fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Temrezov dives in and grabs Boranbayev's left leg, looking for a takedown. Boranbayev pushes down on Temrezov's head and hops out. Temrezov tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Boranbayev was well out of range. Poor timing from Temrezov. Temrezov tries for a takedown but Boranbayev sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Boranbayev shoots in and drives through. Temrezov sprawls well. Boranbayev with a poor takedown and Temrezov counters with a two punch combo. Kaplan Temrezov has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Zhasulan Boranbayev. Boranbayev shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Boranbayev showed some decent athleticism there. Boranbayev thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Temrezov's head.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Boranbayev sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Temrezov defending well though.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Boranbayev thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Boranbayev wants to stand but Temrezov has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Temrezov clinches. Temrezov doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Temrezov misses with some punches.
Temrezov is pressed up against the cage. Boranbayev has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Temrezov down to the mat. Temrezov avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. Temrezov has a takedown stuffed. Boranbayev has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Boranbayev misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Boranbayev pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Temrezov back to the cage. Boranbayev follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver. Temrezov's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Boranbayev connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Temrezov scrambles back to his feet. Boranbayev closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Boranbayev lands in his opponent's guard. Boranbayev preventing the sweep. Temrezov is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Boranbayev engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Temrezov is looking for a triangle but Boranbayev pushes his legs off easily.
Temrezov working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Boranbayev doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Boranbayev manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Boranbayev is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Zhasulan Boranbayev showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. And we move into the final round!

That's one minute gone in the round. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Boranbayev slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Temrezov is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Boranbayev is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Temrezov's half guard. Boranbayev content to control rather than advance.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Boranbayev is thwarting Temrezov's attempts to control the position. The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Temrezov is looking to control Boranbayev's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Temrezov avoid being mounted? Boranbayev throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Temrezov wants to control but Boranbayev is keeping busy.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Temrezov blocking the ground and pound attempt from Boranbayev.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Zhasulan Boranbayev seems to be getting the better of the standup. Boranbayev throws a head kick that misses. Temrezov half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range. Some bone on bone action there as Temrezov checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one. Excellent takedown into side control there by Boranbayev. Boranbayev wants to stand but Temrezov has his arm trapped. Boranbayev controls the position. Temrezov is trying to buck Boranbayev off.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Boranbayev is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position. Boranbayev working the ground and pound but Temrezov is defending the strikes. Boranbayev postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
