The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Right keeps the fight on the outside. Right is trying hard to land a takedown here. Mayer sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Mayer connects with a right hand. Right shakes it off.
It looks like Eric Right has been cut. Mayer clinches up with Right and pushes him back against the cage. Mayer lands on the inside with an uppercut. Right with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Right tries for a takedown. No joy.
The referee is keeping an eye on Mayer - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Right breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Mayer thuds his right hand into Right's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Right throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Mayer's waist but Mayer gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Right off to one side. Mayer tries to counter by closing the distance. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Eric Right. That's going to take a lot out of him. Right shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Mayer defends it nicely. Erlen Mayer seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. No luck for Right with that takedown attempt. It seemed like Mayer was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mayer drops Right with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Right looks back up at him and smiles so Mayer waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.
Right is rocked! Mayer lands a jab and follows it up with a massive straight that knocks Right out cold! Right is crumpled in the corner, his head only propped up by the cage! That's one for the organiziational promos right there! Wow, what a finish!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:19 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Erlen Mayer!
