Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Alex Mercer (ranked 4650 p4p, 461 weight class) and Pascual Perez (ranked 4414 p4p, 446 weight class). Perez has chosen Another One Bites The Dust as his entrance music. This should be a great matchup!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
30 - 22 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Alex Mercer! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
17 - 22 - 1, fighting out of New York, Pascual Perez! The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Gregory Folan and Trevor Gratis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Perez misses with a double jab.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Perez crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Mercer - the referee stops the clock and Perez gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Mercer. Perez manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes. Nice shot lands for Mercer. Mercer thuds his right hand into Perez's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters. Mercer has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. No luck for Perez with that takedown attempt. Mercer scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard. Mercer connects with a right hand. Perez shakes it off. Nice sprawl there from Mercer as Perez shoots in. Mercer lands with a good body shot. Perez throws a nice looking combination but Mercer bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Mercer jabs at Perez's body. Perez has managed to clinch.
Mercer escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Mercer, as that shot connected.
Mercer lands with a nice body punch. Mercer scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business. Mercer fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done. Perez takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Alex Mercer is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mercer scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one. Mercer scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business. Mercer fakes a jab and then connects with a hook. The fight stays on the outside here - Perez looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Perez wants to clinch. Mercer cracks Perez with a good jab. A kick lands to the mid section there for Mercer. Jab from Mercer. Perez drops his hands momentarily and Mercer takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head. Perez has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout. Mercer is really peppering his opponent's head with punches. Mercer cracks Perez with a right hand to the side of the head. Mercer jabs Perez to the body, keeping him at a distance. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Mercer scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent. Perez tries to clinch but Mercer is having none of it. Perez tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Mercer manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mercer dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Perez. That did some damage! Perez tries to clinch up but Mercer circles away and keeps his distance. Mercer digs a good hook to Perez's body.
Mercer moves into range and lands a nice leg kick. Mercer is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot. Mercer stuns Perez with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range. A looping hook to the body misses from Mercer. Perez does a little dance to reset his feet. And Perez responds with a good body kick, but Mercer manages to step out the way in time. Mercer getting the better of the striking in that exchange. Perez moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross. Perez moves forwards but Mercer connects with a nice, crisp jab. Mercer connects with a jab. Perez wants to clinch. Alex Mercer seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Mercer connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe. Perez fails in his attempt to clinch.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mercer sizes up Perez with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle. Mercer lands a glancing blow to the side of Perez's head. Perez tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Mercer makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. Mercer lands a really nice looking cross but Perez seems unphased.
Mercer lands with a shot to the body. Mercer scores with a jab to the head.
Perez tries to clinch but Mercer moves out of range. Perez closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so. Mercer dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Perez. That did some damage! Mercer avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Mercer uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Perez has time to react. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Mercer drops Perez with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Perez looks back up at him and smiles so Mercer waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.
Perez is rocked! Perez on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot. Perez is still on wobbly legs! Can Mercer finish him? Perez tries to clinch up but Mercer circles away and keeps his distance. As Perez backs away, Mercer returns fire with a leg kick that just misses. Perez wants to stay close but Mercer steps back to make room for something. Perez seems frozen to the spot and bam! huge swing of the leg from Mercer and Perez drops like he has been shot! A huge head kick and it's all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Alex Mercer! An out of breath Alex Mercer thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
