Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Blair Wall! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Andrei Lutoborov! The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Dmitry Maklakov and Aleksei Zolotukhin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Lutoborov shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Lutoborov was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! You can see the frustration on Wall's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Lutoborov staying calm. Wall wants to control but Lutoborov postures up. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Lutoborov working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though. A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Lutoborov working away. Lutoborov laying and praying for a moment but Wall takes advantage and regains half guard. Lutoborov is trying to control the action in half guard but Wall is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Lutoborov sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Wall defending well though.
That's one minute gone in the round. Wall has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Lutoborov is working away from the top position though. Lutoborov working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
It looks like Blair Wall has been cut. Lutoborov is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. Lutoborov throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Lutoborov keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. Wall trying to hold on to Lutoborov's head to control him but Lutoborov postures up.
Lutoborov trying to control the pace. Lutoborov scores with a big shot! Wall's head bounced off the canvas with a huge thud! More strikes land and the referee has jumped in to save Wall! He was hurt real bad - good stoppage!
