Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Lane Larson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Sandoe Mi! The judges for this bout are Ben Watson, Hugh Johnson and Francis DeMontford.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mi fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Larson, pushing him back against the cage. Mi jumps into guard, dragging Larson to the mat.
Mi is controlling Larson's posture. Mi is trying to control the position but Larson postures up. Mi has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. Larson content to stall in guard here. Larson's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Mi tries to clinch up but Larson circles away and keeps his distance. Larson tries to counter by clinching up but Mi breaks away and moves out of range. Mi looks winded! Mi throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Mi tries to bum rush Larson with a series of wild strikes but Larson uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Larson seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance. Sandoe Mi is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Larson closes the distance and clinches. Larson is trying to drag Mi to the mat but Mi just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. Larson pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. and Larson counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Larson.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Larson breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Larson looks for a takedown but Mi sprawls well. Mi appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lane Larson. That's going to take a lot out of him. Larson will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Larson goes for a double leg but Mi avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Mi continues to drive forward. Mi gets tackled into the cage by Larson. Larson maintains the clinch. Larson breaks from the clinch.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Larson.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Larson shoots in for a takedown but Mi shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Mi tries to land a front kick but Larson steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed. Mi closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Lane Larson will probably get the nod. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Larson is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Mi wants to get up but he can't break Larson's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Mi trying to control but Larson is working from the bottom. Mi trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Mi must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Mi decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Mi throws a left and a right that both miss
and Larson counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Mi fails in his attempt to clinch.

Larson pushes Mi against the cage but Mi circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Mi defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Larson. Mi forces Larson back against the cage and clinches. Larson gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Mi.
