PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Roy Whitaker (ranked 3667 p4p, 384 weight class) and Risto Halonen (ranked 24574 p4p, 688 weight class). Risto Halonen told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A telegraphed right hand from Whitaker misses the target.
Whitaker lands with a good body shot.
Whitaker jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Halonen tries a quick counter leg kick but Whitaker is wise to it.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Halonen has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Whitaker works Halonen's body with a nice hook.
Whitaker misses with a wild body shot.
Halonen is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Whitaker with a body shot.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Halonen misses with a takedown attempt
and Whitaker counters with a nice uppercut.
Halonen takes one on the button.
Whitaker lands a jab to Halonen's midsection.

Whitaker misses with a hook. Halonen ducked under it nicely.
Halonen tries to move into range but Whitaker moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Whitaker lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Halonen at a distance.
Whitaker scores with a hook to the body. Halonen takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Whitaker looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Whitaker lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!

and Whitaker counters with a nice right hand that sends Halonen toppling to the canvas! Halonen scrambles and gets back to his feet - can Whitaker finish him?!

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Whitaker moves in close and cracks Halonen with a massive right hand! Halonen, frozen momentarily in time, tumbles to the canvas, already out cold! A brutal knockout by Whitaker !
